Educators go beyond CIPA compliance with Spector 360 being shown at NECC 2007 in Atlanta
VERO BEACH, FL - June 1, 2007 - SpectorSoft, the worldwide leader in Internet Monitoring and Surveillance Software, will be holding live product demonstrations of Spector 360 – the most advanced software solution for going beyond CIPA compliance by monitoring student PC and Internet activity – at the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) scheduled for June 24 – 27 in Atlanta.
Under Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA), no school or its library is eligible to receive discounts on Internet technology products unless it certifies it is enforcing an Internet Safety Policy by including the use of filtering or blocking technology. "Trying to use a firewall as a complete solution was awful, almost impossible. We absolutely needed a better way," states Russell Moore, Network Administrator, Plainfield Community School District in Illinois. "We've always caught students doing things they shouldn't be doing. But with changes in technology, we saw we had a driving need for monitoring. We evaluated other products, but they were primitive compared to Spector 360," says Moore.
"Spector 360 Quick View reports let you know what's happening REAL FAST," says Robert Haviland, Technology Coordinator, Hickman County Schools in Tennessee. "It only takes a moment to see who's hogging bandwidth. Right now, on the bandwidth chart, I see one user bringing down large amounts of data … it looks like lots of music. We've also had several students do the porn thing," adds Haviland. "A few of them have been quite adamant in their efforts, and they've been after the real stuff." With Spector 360's continuous oversight, indiscretions are documented, the responsible students addressed, and consequences paid.
"Spector 360 is extremely user-friendly and feature-rich," says Andrew Michaels, Director of Technology and Information Services, St. Anthony Parish in Wisconsin. "Spector 360 definitely has increased productivity. Our principal loves it. She is not a computer expert but she got on the Spector 360 software easily."
