Data
Vault
The Dashboard users must have Windows share access to the Spector 360 File Storage folders in order to view Screen Snapshots or Email Attachment associated with Client recordings.
The default location for the File Storage system is C:\Spector360Data on the Data Vault - Database computer, but can be any folder as defined during Spector 360 setup. Rather than giving users full access (C$ Share) to the Data Vault, you can create new shares to give the Dashboard users just enough permission to view the necessary files.
|
|
To set up sharing, you must have Administrator privileges on the Data Vault computer. You can limit network user access to the computer at a detailed Windows folder level, but you must define a share at the top-level Spector 360 Data folder. |
To share the File Storage Folder:
Use the Windows My Computer or Explorer interface to find the top-level File Storage folder (C:\Spector360Data) on the Data Vault computer.
Email attachments are stored in an attachments
subfolder. Screen snapshot
files are stored under snapshots, which
may be divided into Domain
and Local subfolders. Within a
domain or local folder are folders labeled with user names. These folders
collect the screen snapshots for the user. You can use Windows sharing
to limit access to users at the level of detail you wish. To start, however,
you will create ONE share at the base C:\Spector360Data folder.
Return to the C:\ level and right-click
on the Spector360Data folder.
Select Sharing and Security. Enable
sharing and provide a Share name. Click Permissions
to select a Group if you wish, and to make sure that "Read"
is the only Permissions allowed. Click OK,
and OK again to change the folder
Properties.
Now, open the Dashboard. Select the
Management tool and File
Storage Location.
Double-click a File Storage location in the right pane. The Edit Shared Name window appears.
Enter the Data Vault computer name and
the Share Name you gave the folder (step 2 above). This automatically
gives ALL Dashboard users access to the folder under the specified Share
Name.
Click OK. The Share Name is changed in the File Storage Location list.
If
desired, create shared folders at the user-level folders, within the Snapshots
and Attachments folder. The Dashboard Management tool allows you to restrict
access to user data from the database, but restricting shared folders
ensures that Dashboard users have no privileges
