Migrating from Spector CNE to Spector 360

Managing Your Installation

If you are updating your SpectorSoft software from Spector CNE 4.3 or greater to Spector 360, you will take the following steps. This procedure is also provided in the Spector 360 Deployment Guide.

We recommend installing Spector 360 Server Components on a different computer from your Spector CNE Server. Test Spector 360 with a few Clients before switching over completely. When you are ready, install Spector 360 over your current CNE installation.

To migrate to Spector 360:

  1. Back up your data.
Backup all data recorded in the Data Vault.  By default this is the C:\SpectorData folder. It is important to backup the Data Vault folder as a precaution even though you will import this data after the setup is finished.

  2. Back up your settings files.
Back up your Control Center .ini settings. The Spector 360 Setup gives you the option to save existing settings files, but you may want to have a backup to be sure.

  3. Download the Spector 360 setup program.
    Download
and save the Spector 360 installation program. You will need a valid serial number. Save the installation sp360setup.exe file to the computer where you will install the Spector 360 Server Components. Note: You can install the 360 components over the CNE components without uninstalling.

  4. Run the Spector 360 Setup.
Run the sp360setup.exe file to install Spector 360. We recommend installing all Server Components and the Dashboard on a single computer. You will install a new Control Center, a new Data Vault (with databases), a new Primary Server, a Web Filter Server, and the Dashboard. See the Spector 360 Deployment Guide for step-by-step instructions.

You do not need to uninstall Spector CNE 4.3+ Server Components or Clients before installing Spector 360.

  1. Register Spector 360.
Register with your Spector 360 Serial Number and receive the unlock code to complete the installation.

  2. Run the Import Utility.
After all Spector 360 components are installed, run the Import Utility FileToSQL.exe to populate the Spector 360 databases and file storage system with your previous Data Vault data. The utility is automatically installed with the Spector 360 Database. Instructions for running the Import Utility are provided in the Spector 360 Deployment Guide.

The Import Utility is provided to populate your new Spector 360 Database with previously recorded data. You can use the Import Utility more than once, if necessary. Following re-installation of the Client, Spector 360 will automatically insert all ongoing recorded data in the new Data Vault / databases and you will no longer need the CNE 4.3+ Data Vault.

  1. Rebuild the Client Install File.
Use the newly installed Control Center to rebuild the Client Install file with the Deployment Utility.

  2. Re-install all Client Recorders.

It is IMPORTANT to install the updated Client software within 5 days of installing Spector 360 or the recording that continues on the Clients will be lost.

  1. Re-run the Import Utility, if necessary.
Use the Spector 360 Import Utility to import any remaining Spector CNE Data Vault data into the Spector 360 databases. Going forward, Spector 360 will place all recorded data in the new Data Vault / databases. Once the new Clients are installed, the data will be processed by the 360 Data Vault and stored in the 360 databases. You can move or remove old 4.3 Data Vault folders.

Once the installation of the updated Client has completed for all computers being recorded, then the update of Spector 360 is complete.
