The Client
Client Computer Diagnostics allow you to see whether or not a computer meets the requirements for remote Client installation and management in integrated mode. The Diagnostics also test for a working Client service, and to make sure that scheduled Spector Client install and uninstall tasks can be delivered and accepted at the computer.
To check Windows services on the Client:
The Client Recorder does not have to be installed on the computer to check Windows services. If the computer passes these tests, you can install the Client from the Control Center.
In the Control Center, select Manage Computers in the left navigation pane.
Right-click on a computer in the right pane, select All Tasks > Diagnostics.
Click the following buttons:
Registry Check - Click to verify that the registry is accessible by the Control Center on the selected computer. For Windows 2000/XP/Vista computers, this diagnostic will automatically start the Remote Registry Service on the computer prior to attempting and testing access. A status message confirms Windows System Registry is accessible on the computer. If the service is not accessible, an error message appears. Make sure the computer is connected to the network. Click OK to close the message box. More...
Admin Check - Click to verify access to Administrator Share on the Client computer. If the account you logged in with has access to the Client's Administrator Share, a confirmation message appears. If the Control Center cannot access the Administrative Share folders, an error message appears. Make sure the computer is connected to the network and that your current login account has Administrator privileges on the Client computer. Click OK to close the message box. More...
Scheduler Check - Click to verify access to the computer's Windows Task Scheduler. This diagnostic automatically starts the Task Scheduler Service on the computer prior to testing access. The test will fail or not be available for computers running under Windows 98/ME. If the Task Scheduler is accessible, a message confirms this. If it is not accessible, an error message appears. Click OK to close the message box. More...
After you install the Client, the Client Service (a Windows Service) should be available and communicating with the Control Center and other Server Components. Click these buttons in the Diagnostics box:
Service Check - Click to display a status box. If the Client Service is running, the status box asks if you want to stop it now. Click OK to stop the service or Cancel to leave it running. If the Client Service is NOT running, the status box prompts you to start it now. If you click OK to start the service and receive an error in setting the service state, you may need to re-install the Client. If the Client Service has not been installed, you see "Error: The Spector Client Service cannot be found on computer \\name."
Service Connect - Click to verify the connection to the Client Service. If the test is successful, a status box displays the Client version, Recorder status ("Yes" if the recorder is installed and running) and Viewer status ("Yes" if installed; "No" if not installed). If the test shows a "Failed to connect to" message, click OK and verify that the Client computer is running and that the Client has been properly installed.
The computer must have the Windows Task Scheduler and Remote Registry services enabled to complete these tests. Click these buttons:
Create Test Tasks - Click to create a test scheduled task on the computer. Since the proper running of the Task Scheduler Services is dependent on the Remote Registry Services on the computer, this diagnostic will also report if the Remote Registry Services are not running properly. Click OK to close the message box.
Verify Task - Click to verify the existence of a scheduled install / uninstall task. If an install or uninstall task is present on the computer, a message box displays the properties of the task. If no task is detected, a message informs you. Click OK to close the message box.
