Installing the Control Center

If you are installing ALL Server Components, this section of the Setup begins the installation of all Spector 360 services. If you have chosen to install ONLY the Control Center component, Setup will install ONLY the Control Center application (see below). Perform a complete installation of all Spector 360 Server Components BEFORE using Setup to install components separately.

To install the Servers / Control Center:

  1. Choose an installation path for Server Components:
    If you are installing all components, this will be the base path to your Spector 360 server installation. The default folder is C:\Program Files\SpectorSoft\Spector 360. Use the Browse button if you wish to select a different destination. You will have the opportunity to direct the installation of each component to a different computer as you proceed in the setup.

  1. If prompted to do so, and if you are connected to the Internet, download the latest Server installation files from SpectorSoft. Click Next and wait for the files to download.

  2. A message informs you that a Windows service will be installed on this computer to give the Control Center regular status updates on the computers you will be recording. Click OK.

In order to retrieve information about network computers, the Control Center Server requires Administrator privileges on those computers. Ideally, you have a Domain Administrator account or an account that has Administrator privileges established as a member of the Administrator group on each computer. See Server Components and the Network.  

  1. Set the credentials for the Control Center Server to use.
    If you provided Network credentials for the SQL Server service, a message appears asking if you would like to reuse the credentials.
    Click Yes to reuse the credentials entered before and go on to Step 5.
    Click No to enter different network credentials.

To set Control Center credentials, enter the User Name in the format DOMAIN\USER and enter the Password twice. Click OK.

  1. A message informs you that an unlock code for the number of Client licenses purchased will be required at the end of this installation. The unlock code will arrive via email after you register the installation. Click OK.

  2. Continue on to Installing the Primary Server.

To install ONLY the Control Center:

All Server Components should already be installed. Accept the License Agreement and enter the Serial Number, if necessary, before following the steps below. If you are installing multiple Data Vaults, install the Data Vault Server BEFORE installing the Control Center to go with it.

  1. Choose an installation path for the Control Center application (see Step 1 above).

  2. Identify the location of Control Center Server. Enter the computer name where you initially installed the servers, or click Browse to find the Server computer on the network. Click Next to continue.

  1. Confirm that you are NOT installing the Control Center Server, and verify that this server and the Primary Server are located and accessible on the network. Click Yes.

  1. Verify that the Primary Server is already installed. Enter the name of the Primary Server computer. Click Next.

  1. Locate the Spector 360 SQL Server instance. Click Next.

  1. Locate the Data Vault Server. Click Next.

  1. Locate the Web Filter Server (screen similar to above). Click Next.

  2. Wait for the files to install.

  3. Click Finish. The Control Center application is now installed.
