Spector Corporate Network Edition (CNE) provides powerful tools for monitoring employees and improving productivity. This Deployment Guide helps you install Spector CNE quickly and begin recording computers immediately.
The Spector CNE Setup program installs all Server Components. If you have not yet acquired the Setup program:
Request a Setup CD from
SpectorSoft at 1
Download the Setup program from the SpectorSoft web site; click here.

We recommend installing the Spector CNE Server Components on a central computer. Server Components include the Primary Server, Data Vault, and Control Center. The Setup program installs each component, one after the other.
To begin installing Spector CNE:
Run cne60setup.exe.
Double-click the downloaded program icon or insert the CD in your CD
drive to auto-start the Setup program. If components are already installed,
a prompt asks if you want to Install over. Click Yes
for a normal upgrade and skip to Step 6 below.
Accept the license agreement.
Read the license agreement, and if you agree to the terms, click Yes to accept them.
Note: If the Setup program detects an existing version of Spector or the Spector Client on the computer a message appears. You cannot install the Control Center on a computer where the Client is installed. Take steps to uninstall the Client before proceeding. Click OK.
Enter
your Serial Number.
The serial number is provided with your purchase confirmation email.
You can copy the serial number from the email and paste it into the form.
If you are typing the serial number, be aware that all characters are
numeric except the 5th and 6th characters, which are letters. Click OK.

Select a path for installation.
The default path is C:\Program Files\SpectorSoft\SpectorCNE.
Click Browse and select a new
path, if desired. (You will have an opportunity later to select installation
locations for individual components.) Click Next
to continue. If the path has not been created, you are prompted to create
it. Click Yes.
Download files.
To proceed, the Setup must now download additional files from the SpectorSoft
web site. The version you are about to install is displayed (Version 6.0.xxxx).
Click Next to continue and wait
for the files to download.
Choose Spector CNE components to install.

All Components: Check this option to install all components
at one computer. We recommend using this option to set up your Administrator
Station. This computer will become the repository for all recorded activity
as well as the central location to manage and configure the Spector CNE
installation. Clear this option to install selected
components.
Click here to read about the components.
Control Center: Install the central administration and client
configuration tool.
Primary Server: Install the licensing and updating component.
One installation is allowed for each Serial Number.
Data Vault: Install the component that receives Client recordings
and archives Client data. A Control Center must be installed to manage
each Data Vault.
Data Viewer: Install to view Client recordings. You can install
a Data Viewer on any computer with network access to the Data Vault or
a Client. You must install a
Data Viewer with the Control Center.
Installation Notes: Click this button to view and print information
about the setup process.
Click the Set Credentials button.
If you don't click the button on the Server Components selection screen,
you will be prompted by the following box. Use an account, preferably
a Domain Administrator account, that has Administrator privileges on the
Administrator computer and on all the Client computers you are planning
to record. The Control Center service will need this access to monitor
and manage the Clients.
Enter the account domain\user
name and the password. Click OK.

Click Next to continue with the installation.
A message appears telling you that an unlock code for the number of Client licenses purchased will be required at the end of this installation. The unlock code will arrive via email after you register the installation. Click OK.
Install
the Primary Server.
The Primary Server registers and unlocks the serial number, handles
client licensing, and downloads software updates from the SpectorSoft
web site. Install the Primary Server at one location
on a computer that meets the System Requirements
and is always running. Select a location for the
Primary Server and click Next to
continue the Setup.

Install on This Computer:
The recommended configuration is to install the Primary Server with all
Server Components on an the Administrator Station.
Install on Another Computer (enter the computer name in field below):
Use this option when you need the Primary Server installed on a computer
separate from other Server Components. Enter the Windows computer name
in the text box below, or click Browse
and navigate to and select the computer on your network.
Primary Server is Already Installed (enter computer name in field
below): Use this option when you are reinstalling Spector CNE Server Components
and want to use your existing Primary Server installation. Enter the computer
name in the text box below, or click Browse
and navigate to and select the computer on your network.
Install
the Data Vault service
The Data Vault uses a Windows service to receive recorded events from
Clients and store them in the Spector CNE Data Vault folders. If you are
installing on a Windows XP computer and have the Windows Firewall enabled,
a port will automatically be opened to allow communication with this service
and other Spector components.
Note: If you are installing the Data Vault components on a remote computer other than the computer from which the Spector CNE Setup is being run, the C$ Administrator share must be enabled on that remote computer or the service cannot be installed.
Select a location for installing the Data Vault and click
Next.

Install on This Computer: Install the service on this computer; the computer where you are running the CNE Setup program (the Administrator Station).
Install on Another Computer (enter the computer name): Use this option only when you need the Data Vault installed on a computer separate from the other Server Components.
Data Vault is Already Installed (enter computer name). Use this option when the Data Vault service is already installed and you do not want it to be changed.
If you do not choose "This Computer," enter the Computer Name where the Data Vault will be (or is). Use the Windows computer name; click the Browse button to locate the computer on the network if necessary.
Select the file storage location.
This is where the encrypted recordings will be stored within the Data
Vault. The default path is C:\SpectorData.
Click the Browse button to navigate
to and select a different location, if you wish. Click
Next. Wait as the Server Components
are installed and the services are started.

Register your Spector CNE serial number.
When you see the Serial Number Registration panel, installation of
the Spector CNE software components is complete. You are now required
to register your Product Serial Number. If you are reinstalling, it is
not necessary to re-register. Click OK
and skip to step 12 below.

If the computer is connected to
the Internet:
Click the Register button to
request the Unlock Code. The Unlock Code will be sent in an email to the
address of the owner of the Spector CNE serial number.

If the computer is not connected
to the Internet or you wish to register later:
Click Close. Skip to Step 12
below. You will need to register and unlock Spector CNE before you can
use it. See Registering.
Copy the Unlock Code from the
email and paste it into the "Unlock Code" input box on the registration
page.

After pasting in the Unlock Code, click Unlock to complete the registration.
A message tells you that your serial number is validated for the number of licenses you purchased. Click OK.
Complete
the Setup.
The setup ends with the Installation Notes open. Print and close the
file. Click Finish.
Now that Spector CNE is installed:
Continue on to the Post-Setup Steps that will complete your deployment.
NOTE: Reinstalling - If you need to reinstall a component, run the setup program again. Follow the instructions shown above. If the Primary Server is still installed, you will not have to re-register.
