As Spector Pro records activity, it stores data in hidden data files. If you plan to view data across a network, these data files must be accessible. To make them accessible:
Set up your network so that remote users can access shared folders. See Preparing Computers to Share Data.
Share Spector Pro's hidden data file folder as described below.
At the recorded computer, use Spector Pro to "share" its data file folder. The procedure is simple and automated, and keeps the Spector Pro data file folder concealed from view. Regardless of which operating system you have, follow this procedure.
To create a share for the data file folder:
On the monitored computer, use your hotkey combination and password to open the Viewer.
Open the Settings window.
Select Configure Security under Security at the bottom of the left pane to display the Configure Security pane.
Click the Data Files button to open the data File Settings window. The Folder field contains the randomly assigned name of the folder in which data files will be stored (in the illustration below, "unimedlg").
Select the checkbox next to Share. This sets up a share that represents the data file folder.

NOTE: If the field next to Share says [Sharing not available], you have a Windows Me or 98 operating system and you must complete additional procedures before you can configure the data file folder as shared. Click here for procedures.
As soon as you select Share, the [Not Shared] field entry is replaced by a "shared" file path. The path includes the computer name (\\OFFICE02), the share name (\SPX), and a dollar sign ($).
Copy down the entire path \\computer\share$. You will use this Share path from your Viewer-only installation to access the recorded data on this computer.
Click OK. The following window opens:
Click Yes to accept the change and close the Data File Settings window.
Click OK to save the change you have made. The Settings window closes.
|
|
You can delete the share at any time by opening the Data File Settings window, and unchecking the box next to Share. A message informs you that the share will be deleted, and asks whether you want to do this. Click Yes to delete the share. |
|
|
Always click OK at the bottom of the Settings window to save all the changes you have made. |
|
|
To access the shared folder, you may need to set up Data File Sharing, enable File and Printer Sharing, and/or disable Simple File Sharing on this computer's operating system. See Preparing Computers to Share Data. |
Install the Viewer on the computer where you will review data.
