Spector Pro consists of two software components, a Recorder and a Viewer.
The Recorder is an undetectable program on a computer that silently captures and records all activity and writes it to a series of hidden data files.
The Viewer is a user interface for viewing the recorded activity captured in the data files, adjusting Settings, and accessing Help. It remains hidden until you press the secret hotkey sequence.
There are two types of installations available:
Standard - both the Recorder and the Viewer are installed. A computer on which a Recorder is installed, is "monitored." Activity is captured and recorded. You must purchase a license for each Standard installation.
Viewer Only - only the Viewer is installed. A computer with a Viewer Only installation is NOT monitored, as only the user interface (Viewer) is installed. You are NOT required to purchase a license for a Viewer Only installation.
Local viewing on a computer with a Standard Installation - While a user is working or playing on a monitored computer, all activity is captured and recorded. When the user is away you go to the monitored computer, open the Viewer, and review the recorded activity (local viewing).
This configuration is the simplest and easiest way to monitor users in your home or office if you do not have a network. It works well if you have access to the computer with a Standard installation when the user is not around. Click here for further information about Standard installations and local viewing.
Remote viewing on a computer with a Viewer Only installation - While a user is working or playing on a monitored computer in the local network, all activity is captured and recorded. At any time, you can go to the computer with the Viewer Only installation (if it has been set up for remote viewing), open the Viewer, and review the recorded activity that has occurred elsewhere in your home or office (remote viewing).
This configuration may be useful if you want to monitor users on a network, review the activity in the privacy of your office, and you do not want to record the activity on your computer. Remember, a computer with a Viewer Only installation is NOT monitored and does not require a license. Click here for further information about Viewer Only installations and remote viewing across a local network.
Remote viewing on a computer with a Standard installation - While a user is working or playing on a monitored computer in the local network, all activity is captured and recorded. At any time, you can go to a computer on the network with a Standard installation (if it has been set up for remote viewing), open the Viewer, and review the recorded activity that has occurred elsewhere in your home or office (remote viewing).
This configuration may be useful if you want to monitor users on a network, review the activity in the privacy of your office, and you also want to record the activity on your computer. Remember, a computer with a Standard installation IS monitored and does require a license. Click here for further information about remote viewing across a local network.
Downloading data and viewing at another location - You can download data from a monitored computer onto a USB, zip drive, CD or other removable device, then load the data into a computer elsewhere in your home or office, and view it from there, provided it has either a Standard or a Viewer Only installation. This will depend on whether or not you want to record the activity on your computer.
This configuration may be useful if you do not have a local network, but you want to review recorded activity in the privacy of your office.
