Recorded Activities

Spector Pro records the a variety of activities, as described below. By default, all activity types are set to be recorded, except for Network Activity. Captured data is then stored in hidden data files on your computer's hard drive, which you access through the Spector Pro Viewer.

Screen Snapshots

Spector Pro takes full-screen snapshots, very much like a surveillance camera. Use standard playback and browse controls to view a detailed visual history of exactly what was on the screen when the snapshots were taken. Intelligent triggers determine when a snapshot is to be taken: a web site loading, a page scrolling, a program starting, a window title changing, a left / right mouse click and the Enter key being pressed.

Chat / IM Activity

Spector Pro captures and saves both sides of chat and instant message (IM)sessions from many of the most popular applications including AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, Google Talk, Skype, and IRC.

Online Searches

Spector Pro records every online search using the most popular search engines, including Google, AOL, MSN, and Yahoo. You get a quick picture of what users have been looking for, whether or not they actually go to each web page listed.

Web Sites Visited

Spector Pro captures the domain and subdomain names of every web site visited, allowing you to review when and in what order web sites were accessed, and how much time was spent on each. If you don't like what you see, you can immediately block future access to specific sites.

Email Activity

Spector Pro records both incoming and outgoing emails, as well as file attachments from many of the most popular email applications, including webmail (email using Internet web sites such as Hotmail, Yahoo or AOL). Review at-a-glance both header and body content.

Files Transferred

With the files transferred feature, you see all file traffic to and from the computer via web site upload or download, FTP upload or download, or Peer-to-Peer (P2P). Watch for pirated software, illegal music, pornographic pictures, large video files that take up valuable network bandwidth, online gambling software, and more. Whatever you don't like, you can block.

Keystrokes Typed

Discover what was typed, where and when it was typed, and who typed it. Spector Pro records standard alphanumeric keystrokes, as well as non-displayable characters such as the Shift and Ctrl keys, and keystrokes which may otherwise appear differently on screen (such as an * when a password is typed).

Program Activity

Spector Pro lists every program that has been executed on the monitored computer, as well as every window on which there was keystroke or mouse activity. In fact, you will see how much time the program was ACTIVELY used. In other words, was the application simply opened and left on-screen, or was your employee actually working all day on that spreadsheet? Spector Pro can record all programs or just the ones you want to record.

User Activity

Spector Pro shows you when a user logs on to the computer, when the user is active and when the user stops being active, functioning somewhat like an electronic time card. This window also presents an easy-to-read graphic that allows you to see, at a glance, patterns of behavior over a designated period of time.

Network Activity

One look at captured network information lets you know which Internet web sites are visited and how much data is transferred to and from those sites. This could help you detect the use of streaming video / audio and online gaming programs; or it may be useful in determining possible security violations and productivity drains.

Document Tracking

Spector Pro records various types of document activity and you decide which drive type to monitor: local drives, network drives, and drives that have been mapped to different file devices (for example CD ROM, USB storage devices, floppy drives, zip drives). This may reveal anything from the name of a new file that you can't remember, to evidence that a private family file has been copied, to confirmation that someone at the office has been stealing confidential files.
