There are advanced settings affecting the security of the program, some of which may be relevant to how you use Spector Pro, and some of which you will most likely never need to change.
Under normal circumstances, you will not need to change these settings. SpectorSoft advises that only advanced users attempt this, because changes could affect the ability of Spector Pro to reliably capture data.
To access the Advanced Settings window:
From the Configure Security pane:
Click Advanced to open the Advanced Settings window. A warning appears which reminds you that changing these settings could adversely affect Spector Pro's ability to record.
Click Yes to open the window, or No to exit. This window contains:
Advanced Options - set various parameters that alter Spector Pro security.
Service Monitoring Credentials - regulate the capturing of AOL chat.

Allow Limited Users UI Access - When this is selected, users who do NOT have administrator privileges are able to open the Spector Pro Viewer and monitor recorded events. They will not, however, be able to change any settings. The default is to deny access to "limited users." Click this box to allow "limited users" or non-administrators access to the Viewer.
Assuming that one adult in the household or one employer in the office is the administrator, selecting this option allows:
Any adult to monitor the children from their local computer, without signing on as an administrator. This may be important if time is an issue.
Any non-administrator parent or employer to monitor a PC from a remote location, while signed on as a non-administrator.
Enable Automatic Error Transmissions - Spector Pro traps internal program errors and stores them in a log file. When this option is turned on, program errors may be automatically transmitted to SpectorSoft so that Technical Support may find the cause of the errors. The default is not to enable automatic transmission. Turn this on only if requested to do so by a SpectorSoft engineer.
Enable Spector when Windows starts - By default, Spector Pro automatically starts recording whenever Windows is started. In most cases, this is preferred. Occasionally, however, if you are using Spector Pro in an unconventional way, you might want to manually start recording. To do so, click to turn this feature off, and use Recording Hotkey Sequence to manually start and top Spector Pro. When the Enable Spector when Windows starts feature is turned off, you will still get the question "Do you want to start recording?" when you close the Viewer and you can still select Yes and begin recording.
Enable Browser Extensions - This may help you to record certain activities that you are having trouble with. By default this is disabled. Enable this only if requested to do so by a SpectorSoft engineer.
Capture Layered Windows - Some applications use "layered" windows to improve visual effects such as transparencies and blending. However, when using Windows 2000 or XP layered windows are not captured in Spector Pro's screen snapshots (i.e., the entire window is not visible in the screen snapshot). If Spector Pro is not capturing a window that should be there, it is more than likely that this is due to a layered window, and you should select this option to correct the problem. By default, this option is turned Off as it makes the mouse cursor flicker.
NOTE: Typical applications that use layered windows include MySpace chat, DeadAim, and games.
Capture Console Applications - When selected, Spector Pro captures keystroke activity in the Windows Command (Cmd) window or in DOS.
Enable Logon Warning - When this option is selected, Spector Pro displays a monitoring warning message each time someone either restarts Windows or a new user logs on to the computer. This warning message informs the user that their computer activity is being monitored. The default is NOT to display the warning. If you want to use a warning, click to turn this feature on. You can use the default text or click Set Warning Text and create a custom message.
Enable Log File - The log files contain a record of Spector Pro's system activities. If you contact Technical Support, you may be asked to send us your log file for troubleshooting purposes.
Log File Level - Default level is zero (0), which keeps a reduced amount of information in the Spector Pro log file. It may be necessary to gather more information about the internal operation of Spector Pro if there is a problem. A SpectorSoft engineer may ask you to increase this log file level to gather more information in order to help identify a problem. To raise the Log File Level, click on the arrows.
Click Configure Logfile. The Log File window appears. Click the appropriate activity, as advised by Technical Support. This increases data collection only for a specific component(s), as needed.
File Security - Block, Stealth or None. The default is Block. Use the dropdown list to select a different file security setting only if requested to do so by SpectorSoft.
Network Initialization Delay - This setting increases the number of seconds to delay initialization of Spector Pro modules used to capture Internet information, and may prevent Spector Pro from conflicting with programs that may be competing for the same Windows resources. The default is 0. Click the arrows to change this setting only if requested to do so by a SpectorSoft engineering staff.
Click OK to accept the changes you have made, or Cancel to reject them. The Advanced Settings window closes.
Click OK to save the changes you have made, or Cancel to remove them. The Settings window closes.
To change service monitoring credentials:
Service Monitoring Credentials - At times, additional information is required to record certain applications or "services". This option is often used to help Spector Pro capture AOL Chat if a non-administrator is logged on to the monitored computer.
Admin user name - Enter the user name of any Windows administrator that is in the admin group on the monitored computer.
Admin Password - Enter the administrator's password.
Click OK to accept the changes you have made or Cancel to reject them. The Advanced Settings window closes.
Click OK to save the changes you have made or Cancel to remove the changes. The Settings window closes.
