Spector Pro records information about each program that is executed on the monitored computer, including each page that is opened, and how long the user was actively on the page. For example, was the application simply opened and never touched, or was your employee actually working all day on that spreadsheet?
You may want Spector Pro to record all of the applications used on the monitored computer, or you may want to exclude specific applications from being recorded. See When to Record: Selecting Programs. Also, see Viewing Program Activity.
These settings allow you to:
Turn program recording on and off.
Alter the Timeout setting associated with this activity.
To access the Program pane:
Open the Settings window.
Locate Program Activity under Recording in the Navigate pane at left.
Click to open the Program pane. This pane contains:
Options: turn the recording options on or off.

|
Review the settings to be sure they reflect how you want to manage program activity. |
Close all applications that are running and log off all users to ensure that new settings affect these applications and users.
Capture Program Activity - By default, this box is checked to enable the recording of program activity.
If you disable or enable the recording of program activity, you must close the open program(s) and reopen them for the change to take effect.
Capture Program Activity is enabled and you have been recording Microsoft Word activity. The application is currently open. You now disable Capture Program Activity. Spector Pro continues to record MS Word activity until you close MS Word. However, if Word is subsequently opened, the activity will not be recorded.
Up until now you have disabled Capture Program Activity. The user has been working in Excel and has left it open. You now enable Capture Program Activity. The user returns to the desktop and continues working in Excel. Nothing is recorded until Excel is closed and reopened.

The Capture Program Activity box must be checked to activate the Inactivity Timeout field. |
Inactivity Timeout - The program is considered inactive once all mouse and keyboard activity has ceased for a specified period of time. When this occurs, program recording for that application stops and is in "timeout." As soon as the mouse is moved or clicked, or a key is pressed, recording resumes. Click the up or down arrow, or type a number, to change the Inactivity Timeout interval. The available range is 0 to 999 minutes. The default interval is 3 minutes.
|
|
In the Program Activity event window, the Active amount equals the total length of time that the program was opened, minus the "timeout" interval. |
Click OK to save the changes you have made, or Cancel to discard them. The Settings window closes.
Next you will review Network Activity Settings.
