Spector Pro gives you the flexibility to record all programs (applications), or to limit which ones are recorded.
You may ONLY want to record a specific application. Perhaps your single concern is a certain video game that you don't want the youngest child to use. You can tell Spector Pro to record activity only for this particular program.
You may want to record lots of programs, but not all of them. Perhaps you do not want to take up valuable space recording the activity on approved company programs, but you want to see everything else that's going on. You can tell Spector Pro which applications you don't want to record.
Close all applications that are running and log off all users to ensure that new settings affect these applications and users.

If you choose to record activity for a specific program in Network Activity, but you choose NOT to record activity for the same program here, this setting overrides the other and no activity for that program will be recorded. If you choose NOT to record activity for a specific program in Network Activity, but you choose to record activity for the same program here, Spector Pro displays information for this program wherever it is relevant (for example in the Web Sites Visited or Screen Snapshot event windows), but NOT in the Network Activity event window. If you disable Capture Program Activity in the Program Activity Settings window, this overrides all other settings and no program activity will be recorded at all. |
To create a program list:
From the When To Record pane:
If you have determined that you want to limit which programs to record, click Only record the following programs (otherwise all).
|
This box must be checked to activate the other options in this section. |
Make the appropriate selection:
Record only programs listed - Select this if you want to create an Include Programs list and record activity only for the program(s) listed here.
Record all programs except these listed - Select this if you want to create an Exclude Programs list and record activity for all programs, except for those listed here. This is the default.
Click Add.
If you are creating an Include Programs list, the Select Program(s) to Include window opens.
If you are creating an Exclude Program(s) list, the Select Programs to Exclude window opens.
Whether you are creating an Include or an Exclude list, all currently open programs are displayed here (as shown in the two examples above). To add a program to the Include or Exclude Programs list, it must first appear in this list.
If the program you want to select is not here:
Click Refresh. The Refresh feature takes another look at the available programs and updates the list, so that if a program was recently opened it may now appear here. OR,
Click Browse. Navigate through the Open window and click to select any program that is installed.
Click Open to return to the Select Program(s) to Include / Exclude window. The selected program is added to the list on that window. (In the window below it is the Select Program(s) to Exclude window.)
Click to select a program.
Click OK to accept the selection, or Cancel to reject it. The window closes and if the selection was accepted, the program is added to the Programs list.
To delete a program in the Programs list, click to select it and then click Delete. The entry is removed.
Repeat steps 3 through 6 for each program you want to add to the list.
Click OK to save the changes you have made, or Cancel to discard them. The Settings window closes.
Restart the computer.
Next you will review Stop and Start Recording Manually.
