What is Remote Install and How Does it Work?

The majority of people planning to use eBlaster are able to go to the computer they wish to monitor and install eBlaster on that computer. If you are like the majority of people and have physical access to the computer you wish to monitor, then you do not need the optional Remote Install feature.

If you are a parent who wants to ensure the safety of your family while they use the Internet, or an employer who has decided to take control of inappropriate Internet activity by monitoring your employees, these are two examples where you would TYPICALLY have physical access to the computers to install the software and do not need the Remote Install feature.

However, if some of your employees are spread out over multiple locations, or if you have a child (under the age of 18) who makes every effort to keep you away from the computer including hiding the computer in their room and locking the door, then physical access to the computer to be monitored may not be possible or convenient.

In such situations, you may want to consider purchasing the optional eBlaster Remote Install.

eBlaster Remote Install Requirements

Before purchasing the eBlaster Remote Install PLEASE make sure the following requirements are met:

You MUST be the owner of the computer to be monitored, OR you must have permission from the owner of the computer to install the eBlaster software. If you are not the owner of the computer or do not have permission from the owner of the computer, and you install eBlaster on that computer anyway, you have violated the eBlaster software license agreement AND you may violate local, state or federal law.

In addition, Spectorsoft will cooperate with law enforcement authorities if you install this software on a computer that you do not own or do not have permission to install.

How the eBlaster Remote Install Works

  1. The eBlaster Remote Installer program will allow you to pre-configure eBlaster and will then save an INSTALL FILE on your computer.
  2. You will then email this INSTALL FILE to the employee or child so that it is received at the computer to be monitored. For most email programs, you will simply ATTACH the INSTALL FILE to the email. You may wish to include a short note. You then click the SEND button.
  3. The email with the Install File attached will then be sent to the recipient's email address.
  4. When the recipient opens the email, they will need to click on and run the INSTALL FILE which will be attached to the email. The INSTALL FILE will execute and install itself with no interaction needed from the employee or child.

NOTE: Some email programs will not accept emails with program file attachments such as the eBlaster INSTALL FILE. If the recipient is using such an email program, then eBlaster will NOT be installed and you will need PHYSICAL ACCESS to that computer for eBlaster to work properly.

Also, if the recipient does NOT click on the email file attachment to run the INSTALL FILE, then eBlaster will NOT be installed and you will need physical access to the PC for eBlaster to work properly.

  5. If the Remote Install is unable to complete because the INSTALL FILE is not opened by the user on the computer you have sent it to, then you can also copy the INSTALL FILE to a floppy diskette or CD, take the floppy/CD to the computer, and run the INSTALL FILE from the floppy/CD.
  6. If you do not believe the INSTALL FILE will be allowed by the recipient, or that they will not click on the attachment, then DO NOT purchase the Remote Install module.

IMPORTANT: Spectorsoft EXPRESSLY forbids the purchase or use of the Remote Install feature for any purpose other than employers monitoring employees or parents monitoring their minor children, and Spectorsoft will terminate the software license of any purchaser of the Remote Install feature if it believes that the software has been used for a purpose other than an employer monitoring an employee or a parent monitoring a child.
