If you are viewing users in the Monitor Users view and wish to view computers in the Monitor Computers view, or vice versa, here is how to switch the view. Be careful! When you switch the view, you change how the Data Vault organizes data. You will have to manually navigate the Viewer to past recordings if you have already been using the other view. Decide which view is best for you, then stick with that view.

When you choose a view, you can also choose how to load or "discover" the Users or Computers listed for monitoring in the view. How you populate the Monitor Users/Computers list has no effect on the Data Vault.

Switching the View

To change the view of data:

  1. In the left pane, right-click on the Control Center > Properties > Data Vault > Advanced.

The Advanced button is near the bottom of the Data Vault Properties panel. The Data Vault Advanced Properties box opens.

  1. To get the Monitor Users view, check "Data Vault Record By User."  
    To get the Monitor Computers view, clear "Data Vault Record By User."

    For the Monitor Users view, you have the option to list users from (a) information already in the Data Vault or from (b) a list that you create.  See Creating a List of Users. This selection has no effect on the Data Vault.



    For the Monitor Computers view, you have the option to (a) list computers already recorded in the Data Vault or to (b) list computers from the Manage Computers view that may or may not be recording. This selection has no effect on the Data Vault.

  2. Click OK to close the Data Vault Advanced Properties box.

  3. Click Apply to set the Data Vault change and OK to close the Control Center Properties box.

  4. A message reminds you that the change will take place when you restart the Control Center. Click OK.

  5. Close and re-open the Control Center.  The option in the left navigation pane should now be changed to Monitor Computers (or Monitor Users).

When you switch views, you will no longer have continuous access to past recordings from a Client. You will have to use the Viewer to navigate to the previous recordings, which are stored in a different folder.

 

Viewing Previous Data

If you previously monitored by user or by computer, the older recordings are stored in a different folder in the Data Vault. You will need to navigate to the correct folder to view the recordings.

To view data previously recorded by user:

  1. Select the Monitor Computers or Monitor Users view.

  2. Double-click on the User or Computer you wish to view.

  3. Once the Viewer is open, open the File menu at the top of the Viewer window.  

  4. Choose Open Directory.

  5. Navigate to the Users (if you previously recorded users) or to the Computers (if you previously recorded computers) folder.

  6. Select the specific computer or user whose recordings you wish to view. See Loading Events.

  7. Use the Viewer's Refresh button to set the date range. See Refreshing Data.
