Import or Export Domains to Block

Configure Computers

You can import a list of web sites to block (or allow) from the Block Web Sites panel in the Deployment Utility or in Client Settings. The imported list is appended to any domains already in the block/allow list. If an imported domain is a duplicate, it is ignored. The import file should be a plain text (.txt) file with one domain name on each line. In general use just the domain and extension (name.com, name.org).

For example:

# Commented lines can be used
# with this symbol to add info to the list

www.gamblingsite.com

pornographysite.com

badsite.com

If you specify a host, such as "www," another host, such as "mail," at the same domain will not be included in the block/allow rule.

To import a list of domains:

  1. Create the text file listing all domains to block or allow.

  2. Open the Control Center, and use either the Deployment Utility or Client Settings to access the Block Internet Access panel.

  3. At the panel, select the Block Access option with the option to Block web sites in the list.  You are then able to click the Import button.

  4. In the Import From box, navigate to the location of your text, select it, and click Open.

  5. The list is loaded into the panel's Web Site Access list.

If you create a long list of domains, be sure to export it or maintain a document list version somewhere as a backup.

To export a list:

  1. Finalize your list of domains to block, then click the Export button on the Block Internet Access panel.

  2. Navigate to a location, name the file, and click Save. The list of all of Internet Sites to block or allow is written to the text file.
