Configure Computers
By default, the Client is set to install without a Viewer and run in Stealth Mode so it will not be detected. This ensures the greatest security. Change the Client Security options using the Security panel in the Deployment Utility or in Client Settings.
To set Client access security:
For extra security, you can require an password access the Viewer on the Client and to access the Client data within another Viewer. If you are including a Viewer with the Client, you can configure access control through hotkeys and the password.
Note: We suggest using the same password for ALL Client installations. Passwords are case-sensitive.
The Include Viewer option appears only in the Deployment Utility
Password - If defined, a password prompt appears when someone attempts to view recordings from the Client or open a Viewer at the Client (if one is installed). If no password is defined, the prompt does not appear.
Confirm Password - Confirm the password by typing it again.
Hotkey - Displays the key combination required to activate access to the Client Viewer.
Change
- Click to change the hotkey combination. Opens the Hotkey box where you
can select a new combination for opening the Viewer by checking or clearing
boxes. In the bottom box, type any keyboard character. The default combination
Ctrl+ALT+SHIFT+S has been changed to Ctrl+Alt+SHIFT+N in the illustration
below.

Set to Stealth Mode - Check to hide all indication that the Client is running (default); clear to leave a Client Service icon visible in the notification area. See Stealth vs. Visible Mode for a complete discussion.
Include Viewer with Spector Client Installation - This option is available only in the Deployment Utility wizard. Check to install a standalone Viewer with the Client. A prompt appears warning that installing the Viewer increases possibility of detection. Click OK to go ahead with the selection. Clear this option to install the Client without the Viewer; you will be able to view recordings from the Monitor Users/Computers view.

For security, include the Viewer in a Client installation ONLY for troubleshooting purposes. |
To set Client Viewer security:
Most Clients will NOT have the Viewer installed, and the hotkeys configured on this Security panel do nothing. If you have installed a Viewer, however, be sure to set up hotkeys to access the Viewer, preferably WITH a password.
Make sure Set Spector Client to Stealth Mode is selected. The Viewer is easily accessed without this setting.
Define a password in Client Security Settings. This password will be required AFTER you enter the hotkey combination to open the Viewer.
Define a hot-key combination that will open the standalone Viewer. You will enter the key combination at the Client computer (by default Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S) and then enter the password to open the Viewer. To change the hotkey combination, click the Change button, select a new key combination, and click OK.
