Control Center
You can check and control communication between the Control Center and Clients from the Control Center Properties. Right-click the Control Center icon in the left pane, select Properties, and then click on the Control Center Server tab.
To view or change Control Center Server properties:
The Control Center Server communicates with the Clients. The server (a Windows service) runs under a Network account, either a Domain Administrator or an Administrator-level account defined on each Client computer. The account credentials (user name and password) give the Control Center permission to control, configure, and update the Client.
Computer Name - The Windows name of the computer where the Control Center Server is installed.
Listen IP Port - The port number where the Control Center listens for Clients to communicate and update their status.
Set Credentials - The initial Network Account credentials were set when the Control Center was installed. Click this button to display an Account Information box and change the credentials. You'll need to set credentials if your Network passwords change on a regular basis, or if you need to change the account under which the Control Center service runs. Click OK on the Account Information box, and Apply or OK on the Control Center Server panel to set the credentials.
Log Detail Level - The Control Center maintains a log of its own activities. The log file includes date/time-stamped scanning, licensing, configuration, and login actions, and can be useful in determining problem areas. By default, the log records a Low level of detail. Change the level to Normal or Debug only if instructed to do so by SpectorSoft Technical Support.
Start Svr /Stop Svr - Click these buttons to manually start or stop the Control Center Windows service. The service is called "Spector Control Center Server" in your list of Windows Services.
View Server Log - Click this button to view the Control Center Server log (stored in C:\...\SpectorSoft\SpectorCNE\spceadminsvc.log). Most recent activities are appended to the bottom of the file.
Show Server Tray Icon - Check this option to show the Control Center icon in the Windows system tray (notification area). You can double-click the tray icon to quickly view the Control Center version, port, log file, Windows Firewall exception, or to stop/start the service.
Enable Computer Groups Management - Check this option to allow grouping of computers and to apply actions to a group. Clear this option to manage individual computers. See Setting up Group Management.
Note: The Groups Management feature is only valid if Load Startup Computer List From File is selected under the Network Properties tab.
To view or change the Client listening port:
By default, the Client listens for communication from the Control Center on IP Port 2468. When the Control Center sends an Install task to a network computer, the Client Install file is copied temporarily onto the computer's local drive, and then deleted after the installation.

Do not change Client communication settings unless absolutely necessary. |
Enable Communications With Spector Clients - This option MUST be enabled in order for the Control Center to communicate with the Clients. The Control Center communicates with all Clients using the TCP/IP protocol.
IP Port - The port number the Control Center uses to communicate with Clients, by default port 2468. SpectorSoft recommends that you do not change this property. If the Control Center is unable to retrieve information from a Client, it's possible there's an IP Port conflict. If you discover that you need to change the port number, you MUST redeploy the Client (use the Deployment Utility) with the Server Communication Client Port set to the same value used here.
Client SDS Folder - When you install a Client from the Control Center, the Client Install file (spsetup_Settings.sds by default) is temporarily copied to a folder on the Client computer. When the Client is restarted after install, the .sds file is removed. The default location for this file on the Client computer is is C$\TEMP\. SpectorSoft recommends that you do not change this location. If you need to switch to a different folder, click the ... button. Click OK on the message that appears to open a Browse for Folder box. Navigate to a location, select it, click OK, and click OK again to set the new Client SDS Folder.
To obtain the Control Center version:
At the bottom of the panel you'll find the service Version and Build number for the Control Center Server component.
