Spector 360 for Networks becomes more powerful as you begin to use the Dashboard's many settings.

Each chart, report, and data form included in the Dashboard has preset criteria, or characteristics for the data being viewed. Criteria can include date of the recording, type of recording, computer or user being recorded, program being used, specific keywords appearing, and so on. The Dashboard looks for matches to your criteria in the recordings stored in the database.

Using Criteria to Query the Database

Setting criteria is how you query the database. The Dashboard may display the criteria selection box before it displays the report or Data/User Explorer form you select, allowing you to confirm or change the criteria before viewing. You can simply click OK on a Criteria box to open the report or data form. The real power of the Dashboard, however, lies in adjusting criteria selections.

Selecting Criteria

All charts, reports, and data forms allow you to change criteria settings for the specific display of data.

To set criteria

  1. Open the Criteria box.
In Data Explorer, User Explorer, or Reports, when you double-click to open a form or report the Criteria box appears. In Quick View, click the Criteria button below the chart.  The Criteria box has two panels of settings: General Criteria and Event Criteria.

Note: The Criteria dialog box appears automatically before data is displayed only if the Bypass Criteria Dialog setting is not selected.  You can always right-click on a form in the list and select Criteria to make adjustments before displaying data.

  1. Select General Criteria.
General Criteria limits the recorded activities to a time period, and to specific users and/or computers. For example, you can request to view last month's data, from only the computers in the Sales Department. By default, General Criteria fields are set to <Use Global Criteria Setting>.

Global Criteria, in the left navigation pane of the Dashboard, affects all charts, reports, or data forms within a tool.  For example, changing the users in the Global Criteria for Reports changes the users shown in all reports where the General Criteria is set to <Use Global Criteria Setting>.

  1. Select Event Criteria.
Event Criteria limits the events based on the type of activity you are requesting. For example, if you are requesting a Program Activity chart, you can limit the data to specific productivity programs (such as Excel or Word) and base the chart on the most "Active Time" (any mouse or keyboard activity) in these programs. By default, Event Criteria does not filter activity data and includes <All> programs, domains, types of email, an so on.

  2. Click OK to view the results.
When you click OK to accept the changes and close the Criteria box, the Dashboard calls up data from the database that matches your criteria selections, allowing you to focus in on the data you want to see.

Many Quick View charts use customized Event Criteria settings. A red "Custom Criteria" stamp appears in the lower left corner of a Quick View chart when any setting has been changed from the default.

Saving Criteria Selections

The Dashboard applies the Criteria settings to the current chart, report or data form. If you make changes to the criteria, your changes are applied until you use Refresh to update the Dashboard view with new data from the database. The settings will then revert to the default. It's possible to continue using your changed Criteria.

To save your criteria settings:

At the bottom of the Criteria box, select Save Criteria before clicking OK. The criteria you set will be retained for the chart, report, or data throughout database updates.

Bypassing Criteria Selection

When the criteria is appropriate for the charts and data forms you use, there is no need to see the Criteria box every time you open a view of data.

To bypass criteria selection:

Check the Bypass Criteria Dialog option on the General Criteria box. The next time you open the chart or data form, you will go directly to it; there will be no prompt for Criteria. You can always select Criteria from a button or from the Data menu. Any Dashboard user can set this option. See Setting General Criteria.

To always bypass criteria selection:

A Master Login can effectively turn off automatic display of the Criteria Dialog box for all tools in the Dashboard. Check the Bypass Criteria Dialog box option on the Tools / Options / General panel.  See Tools: Options.
