Master Dashboard Login, Allow Database Maintenance
A Master Login with Database Maintenance privileges can use the Management tool to archive the Spector 360 STORAGE Database. The database can be archived only when it reaches 2 GB and another database has been automatically created. The Jobs Management pane shows the date and status of the last archive of each STORAGE database (from the current SQL Server instance), and you can obtain History for the archive job to view all archives performed on the database.

The
Dashboard restores STORAGE archives.
The STORAGE archive to be restored must be on your list of databases
in Databases Management. The default location for archives is on the Data
Vault / Database computer at C:\MSSQL$SPECTOR360\Archive.
The
Dashboard archives only STORAGE data.
An archive differs from a backup in that the database is no longer
accessible by the Dashboard after the archive operation. An
archive does not include Admin, Customer or Data Vault databases. These
remain on with the Spector 360 system following an archive. These databases
are always included in a full backup.
The
Dashboard archives only a full STORAGE database.
Spector 360 databases have a size limit of 2 GB (2,048 MB). When a
database reaches this limit, Spector 360 automatically creates another
database. Normally the data is stored sequentially (in order of recording
time). You can see exactly what is in each database by selecting it and
clicking View Statistics on the
toolbar. To archive a database, a full database must exist and a new one
must be started. By permitting you to only archive a full database, Spector
360 prevents you from removing "all"
data from the Dashboard.
The
archive must be on the database computer.
The default location for archives is on the Data Vault - Database computer
at C:\Program Files \ Microsoft SQL Server
\ MSSQL$SPECTOR360 \ Archive. You can direct the Archives to a
different location (see Database
Configuration), but on the same computer as the installed Data Vault
- Database. The SQL Server needs full permission to the Archive location,
and the only way to ensure the permission is by using a destination on
the machine where the Spector 360 SQL Server instance is installed. You
can move the Archive using the Windows file system to a different location
after the archive is performed.
You
can set up automatic archiving.
The Space Management
tool provides options for automatic archiving when certain conditions
are met.
To archive a database:
Select the Management tool and Databases.
In the right pane, select the full STORAGE database you wish to archive . The database must have a current size of 2,000 MB and a new database (- 002) must be started.
Click Archive Database on the toolbar,
or
right-click the STORAGE database and select Archive
Database.

A message appears informing you that the database will be offline (not available) after archiving. Click Yes to continue.
Wait as the operation is performed.
The database is removed to the specified archive location and is no longer
directly accessible. Click Refresh
on the toolbar to make sure that the archived database now reads "Yes"
in the Archived field.
Note that you can still view statistics and history for the archived database. This will be useful if you need to return to data from a particular time period for investigation or research.
