The Dashboard starts a search at the most current events in the database (within the Global Criteria) and searches all fields of all recordings (within the selected Search Options). When it finds matches, it lists the results in pages of one hundred (100) or fewer field "matches" per page.
The Search tool finds results by matching your terms to data in activity fields (User Name, Window Caption, Sender, Recipient, Domain Name, Focus Time, and so on.) Because the matches are by field, the results may list multiple matches for a single recorded event.
For example, one Webmail event may match the search term gun in (1) its window caption, (2) its subject line, and (3) its contents. However, if gun is found multiple times in the email contents ("No, I don't own a gun. If you want information about this gun, talk to..."), only one match appears in the Search Results list, because the contents of the email is a single field.
To allow you control over your search, the Dashboard lists no more than 100 matches on a page.
If a search term has many matches and there will be many pages of results, the Dashboard displays the first 100 matches. It then waits until you click Next Page under the results list before finding and displaying the next 100 matches. This allows you to narrow a search without waiting for complete Search Results.
If a search term has few matches, the Dashboard will not display results until it finds at least 100 or the maximum number of matches within the entire search parameters (Global Criteria and Search Options).
If a search term has no matches, a message informs you that no matches were found. Try changing the Global Criteria in the left pane, the Search Options (click the Options button), or your search term(s).
