Backups allow you to save all Spector 360 databases so that they can be fully restored in the event you move the Database, the data becomes compromised, or a system failure occurs. We recommend maintaining at least two full backups of the data.

Backups are important because they include ALL databases, not just the STORAGE databases that the archive function stores.

Viewing Backups

To view backups:

Open the Management tool and select the Backup and Restore folder. The right pane lists each Full Backup that has been performed and is detected at the Backup location.

By default, backups are stored in the folder shown below. Each backup folder is labeled by date and contains a full backup file (F---.BAK) and any differential backups (D---.BAK).

If you have not changed the default Backup job schedules or settings, you are getting a Full Backup every week and a Differential Backup every night on the same computer where the databases are installed and collecting data. Copy the Backup folder to media or another drive and then delete the Backup folder to avoid overloading the hard drive.

System Administrator (SA) Login Only

We recommend keeping at least two full backups of your Spector 360 data available. To save disk space, delete older backups that you probably won't be using. See Space Management for automatic space management options. The SA login can delete a backup set directly from Backup and Restore Management.

To delete a backup:

  1. Open the Management tool and select the Backup and Restore folder.

  2. Select the backup you wish to delete.  Right-click and select Delete.

  3. A message asks you to confirm the deletion. Click Yes to continue.

  4. Wait until a message appears telling you that the selected backup and its associated files have been removed. Click OK. The backup is now deleted from the hard drive.

  5. Click Refresh on the toolbar (or right-click and select Refresh) to see an updated list of backups.
