If an executive in your organization has requested detailed reports of network and file transfer traffic every month, you might want to set up new Data Explorer folder(s) and start collecting a variety of your own data forms. There are two ways to add a form to a folder: create a new Data Form, or copy and modify the criteria for an existing Data Form.

Creating a New Data Form

You can add a new data form to a folder or start your own folder of custom forms. Any new data form is based on one activity type.  After creating the form, simply change the form's criteria (or the display settings in the Events window) to get the exact view of data you want.

To create a new data form:

  1. Click New on the toolbar above the navigation pane, or right-click in either pane.

  2. Select Data Form. A window displays available Predefined Data Forms for each activity type.

  3. Select a data form, for example "File Transfer Events." Click OK.

  4. Your folder now contains a "File Transfer Events" form that is similar to the initial form in the Activity Types folder. Double-click on the form (or right-click and select Criteria) to change the form's General and Event Criteria to meet your needs.

Copying a Form

Another way to create a new form is to copy an existing form. The Activity Types folder contains a data form for each recorded activity type.  When you copy a data form, the criteria settings come with it. Simply change the criteria (or the display settings in the Events window) to get the exact view of data you want from your new data form.

To copy a form with drag and drop:

  1. Select the Activity Types folder or any folder that contains the form you want to copy.

  2. Right-click the form in the right pane and select Copy.

  3. Right-click on the destination folder in the left pane and select Paste.  The activity form is copied into the folder. The Dashboard focus switches to the "copy to" folder.
