Creating a Domain Group

What You Can Do

Master Login

Domain Groups Management allows you to organize the Dashboard list of domains in groups. Initially, this list is empty. You must define groups for your organization. When Dashboard users select Event Criteria, it will be easier for them to select from a short list of domain groups than from a long list of domains. It will also be convenient to include or exclude an entire set of domains in one selection to focus on either productivity or inappropriate activity.

Clients: Domains belonging to partner companies, which may indicate productivity.

Competitors:  Domains belonging to competitors, which may indicate either productivity or trouble.

Inappropriate: Domains users have been visiting for entertainment, sports, shopping, job searching, or banking.

Forbidden: Domains that are off limits and users should never visit.

You can use Spector 360 to  block access to "forbidden" domains. Use Website Filtering in the Dashboard Management tool, or block sites on a Client-by-Client basis using the Client Settings (see the Spector 360 Administrator's Guide).

Creating a Domain Group

When domain groups have been defined, rather than picking and choosing from all domains, the Dashboard user can select Domain Groups to include or exclude from Dashboard reports, such as,  "Clients," "Entertainment," "Banking," or "Forbidden" groups.

To group domains:

  1. Click Management and select the Domain Groups folder in the navigation pane.

  2. Right-click anywhere on the right pane and select New from the pop-up menu. A New Group window for Event Domain Group appears.

  1. In the New Group window, type a Group Name (up to 20 characters including spaces).

  2. In the Description field, type a description for the group.

  3. Next to Group Type, select Specific Domain:
All domains known to Spector 360 are listed in the left "Available Event Domains" list. Click in the list and type the first character of a domain name to move quickly through the list.

  4. Select a domain from the left column list. Use the Shift and Control keys to select multiple programs.

  5. Click > to send all highlighted domains to the right hand "selected" list. (The >> button sends all domains in the available list to the selected list.)

  6. Click < to return highlighted domains in the "selected" list back to the "available" list. Click << to return all domains back to the "available" list.

  7. When you have selected the desired domains, click Save and Close on the toolbar. The window closes and the new group appears on the Domain Groups window.
