Table of Management Permissions

Spector 360 Management provides two basic Dashboard login types: Standard and Master. The login account defines who and what types of activity the Dashboard login may view. The type of login determines access to Management functions and the Spector 360 Installation.  The following user roles are possible:

Note: A Dashboard login provides access only to the Spector 360 Dashboard application.

Standard Login

A Standard login has privileges to use all functions in Quick View, Search, Data Explorer, User Explorer, and Reports. Most users will have Standard accounts. A Standard login can be set up to use either SQL Server or Windows authentication to open the Dashboard.  A Standard login may be defined with access to all users and events, limited access to users, or limited access to recorded events.  Standard logins may view Management resources—User Groups, Scheduled Reports, Website Filtering Rules, and so on—but cannot change them. See the table below.

Master Login

A Master login account, similar to a "superuser" login, should be reserved for the person(s) responsible for organizing network resources and managing the Spector 360 data. A Master login, like a Standard login, may be defined with full or limited access to users and/or recorded events, but also has the ability to manage Dashboard login accounts, name and group resources (computers, users, domains), Scheduled Reports, Website Filtering, Database Jobs schedules, and the File Storage location and shares. A Master login can be set up to use either SQL Server or Windows authentication to log in to Dashboard.  See the table below.

System Administrator (SA) Master Account

The System Administrator account, similar to a "root" login, is the SQL Server account defined on installation of the Spector 360 SQL Server database. This login is required to start the Dashboard for the first time, and has all Master Dashboard login privileges plus install and update privileges, Backup/Restore/Delete Backups privileges, and Database size and memory management privileges. The SA account should be used ONLY by a network or database administrator. We recommend that you do NOT use the SA account for normal Dashboard operation.

Keep the SA password secure

Do not lose the SQL System Administrator credentials. This login is necessary for accessing the SQL Server instance during Spector 360 Setup procedures. If you lose or forget the SA login, follow procedures in Recovering the SA Password.

Table of Management Permissions

All Dashboard logins can use the Dashboard. Differences among login types apply mainly to the Dashboard Management tool. The following table shows permissions for Management functions.
