URL Type

Use Web Site Event Criteria to focus the Dashboard view of Web Site Events by keywords, program, domain, or focus / active time.

Search for / in Web Site Fields

Narrow web site events that the Dashboard retrieves by searching for specific words.

To search for keywords:

Type the keywords you want to match (for example, "jobs") and then select fields in which to find the match. For more about keyword matching, click here.

Programs

Retrieve web site events based on the program used to access them (Internet Explorer, Netscape, or other browser programs).

To view Web Sites Visited by program:

Specify individual programs or groups of programs you wish to include or exclude. For example, you might EXCLUDE Internet Explorer to focus on other programs being used to access the web. See Viewing by Program.

Domains

You can filter the data by web site domain. For example, you could see how much time users are spending at monster.com looking at jobs, or cnn.com reading the news.

To retrieve web sites by specific domain:

Specify individual domains or groups of domains you wish to include or exclude. For example, you might EXCLUDE your company and client domains for a better picture of web surfing at non-work related domains. See  Viewing by Domain.

Focus or Active Time

Set your crosshairs on the web sites receiving the most active surfing (scrolling, using the mouse, typing) and extended focus (the Window had the front position on the desktop). For example, you could request to see web sites had front focus for more than 15 minutes. This can show which users are being distracted by web sites, and which are doing work as they should at appropriate web sites.

To set the web activity time:

Make a selection from each of the following lists. The default is "All Active Time." For example, you could choose "Focus Time is greater than or equal to 15 Mins."

  1. From the first drop-down list, choose the type of time to use as criteria:

  2. Active Time: Time where users were actively clicking, scrolling, or typing in the web site.

  3. Focus Time: Time the web page had front focus on the user's computer.

  4. Total Time: Total time the web site was up on the user's computer.

  1. From the second list, choose <ALL> or an operator:

    Operator

    Definition

    All

    all amounts of time

    >

    Greater than

    >=

    Great than or equal to

    <

    Less than

    <=

    Less than or equal to

    =

    Equal to

    !=

    Not equal to

  2. If you do NOT choose <All>, in the third text box, type a number.

  3. From the final list select Hrs, Mins, or Secs to set the time period.
    For example, set a Focus Time of > 3 minutes to see web sites where users are spending substantial time.

URL Type

Finally, you can filter web site activity down to just those sites that users attempted to view but were blocked, sites where files were downloaded, or sites that were redirected to other, possibly inappropriate sites. The information returned by this criteria can help you fine tune Website Filtering or Internet port blocking.
