Installing the Primary Server

The Primary Server handles client licensing and downloads software updates from SpectorSoft web site. There can be only one Primary Server installation configured for Spector 360. It is the Primary Server that registers and unlocks your serial number. The Primary Server requires network access to all Client computers and to the Control Center. It does not require access to the databases.

To install the Primary Server:

  1. Select where to install the Primary Server:



Install on This Computer: The recommended configuration is to install the Primary Server on this computer, where you will install all Server Components (the Administrator Station).   

Install on Another Computer (enter the computer name in field below): Use this option when you need the Primary Server installed on a computer separate from the Database or other Server Components. Click the Browse button to browse the network and select a computer. If you are installing the Primary Server on another computer, you may need to supply Network Credentials that allow Administrator-level access to the computer on which you are installing.

Primary Server is Already Installed (enter computer name in field below): Use this option when you are reinstalling Spector 360 Server Components and want to use your existing Primary Server installation - see Updating or Reinstalling Spector 360.

  1. Enter or browse to a Computer Name.
    If you do not choose "Install on This Computer," enter the Computer Name where the Primary Server will be installed.  Enter the Windows computer name or click the Browse button to locate the computer on the network.

  2. Install PS Service with Network Credentials.
    Check Install PS Service with Network Credentials if you need credentials different from those you are currently logged in under in order to install the Primary Server on another computer.

Click the Credentials button.

If you check this option and attempt to proceed (click Next) without using the Credentials button to supply account information, a message appears. If you have already supplied credentials for a previously installed service, you can click Yes to reuse those credentials (or No to enter new credentials).

Supply the domain\username and password for the network account. Click OK and Next to continue the Setup.

  1. If a Primary Server was previously installed, you are prompted to stop it now in preparation for reinstallation. Click OK.
