You will install the Client Recorder on computers on your network AFTER the Server Components are installed. Complete instructions for Client installation are provided in the Administrator's Guide. In addition to meeting the system requirements, here's a list of what the Client computers will require to work properly in your Spector 360 deployment.

|
After the Control Center is installed, use Client Diagnostics to determine whether a network computer meets the Client requirements. Refer to the Administrator's Guide for more about Client Diagnostics. |
One license for each Client computer.
You must have a license for each computer on which you install the Client Recorder. The purchase confirmation email you received from SpectorSoft shows your serial number and the number of Client licenses you have purchased. For each Client, a license can be reserved and, when the Client is installed, the license is used.
Network Access to the Primary Server, Data Vault Server, Control Center Server, and Web Filter Server.
Each Client Recorder requires TCP/IP network access to the Server Component services. The computer(s) where the Server Components are installed must be up and running and on the netwoSindentrk at all times. If the Primary Server is unavailable to provide licensing to the Client computers, the Clients will become unavailable to the Control Center and stop sending recorded events to the Data Vault. If the Data Vault Server is unavailable, the Clients will not be able to upload data. If the Web Filter Server is unavailable, centralized Website Filtering will not be applied to Clients.
The Clients need to resolve the names of the Server Components computer(s) to an IP address. SpectorSoft recommends using a static IP address rather than the computer's name. Refer to the Spector 360 Administrator's Guide for more about configuring communication with the Client.
Administrator credentials on the local computer.
When you use the Control Center to install (uninstall or reconfigure) the Client, you will enter credentials (user name and password) for an Administrator-level account on the Client computer. This makes it possible to perform the task at the computer. You can enter credentials for a Domain Administrator account or a Local Administrator account. If you are working in a Windows Workgroup environment, you will need a login account with local Administrator C$ Share privileges on each computer being monitored. See Deploying in a Windows Workgroup.
The Client computer must have administrative C$ share access enabled. Instructions are provided in the Administrator's Guide.
The Client Installer automatically creates a Windows firewall exception for port 2468 on the Client. Through this port, the Client attempts to listen for connection to the Control Center. The Client makes connection to the Data Vault and Primary Server through their IP ports 16770 and 16769, and to the Web Filter Server through its port 16771 (see Server Components and the Network).
ALL Clients must have File and Printer Sharing services enabled. These services normally are already enabled in Windows Vista, XP and 2000 operating systems. Be sure to check the Windows services on computers running under Windows 98, ME, or XP Home. The Control Center provides a Diagnostics function that allows you to check the status of a computer's services.
|
|
If File and Printer Sharing is not enabled, the Client computer will not be properly detected on the network by the Control Center. |
Spector 360 allows you to install or update the Client Recorder remotely from the Control Center on network computers. To accomplish this, the Client computer must have Remote Registry Services and Windows Task Scheduler enabled. Because computers running under Windows 98 / ME / XP Home do not offer Remote Registry, these computers require special configuration OR a manual Client installation at the Client computer. See Client Recorders on Windows 98 / ME.
Any computer without User-Level Access for folders, Remote
Registry Services, or a Local Repository to validate user permissions
requires a manual installation. For simplicity,
a install manually on:
- Computers running Windows XP Home / 98 / ME
- Computers in a Windows Workgroup network
Instructions are provided in the Administrator's
Guide.
