Communications Tab
This tab contains properties, which are used by the Control Center for communicating with the Client installations.

Figure 1: Control Center Properties - Communications Tab
By default, Enable Communications With Spector Clients is selected. This property must be selected for the Control Center to communicate with the Clients. The Control Center communicates with all Clients using the TCP/IP protocol.
The IP Port property allows you to change the IP port the Control Center uses to communicate with Clients The default is port 2468. SpectorSoft recommends that you do not change this property unless there is a known conflict with other software on your network. If this port is changed, then the IP port that the Client installations are configured to listen for communication MUST also be changed. Changing the IP port that the Client receives communication must be done when creating the Client install file using the Deployment Utility.
If the above IP port configuration is changed and the Client configuration has not been changed to match this modification, the Control Center will not be able to communicate with Client installations and you will lose your ability to remotely configure the Client.
Since
the Clients must listen for communications from the Control Center, they
also default to port 2468.
The DLL Directory and Name properties are read only properties, which are provided for informational use only.
The DLL Directory property is set to the folder where the Control Center was installed
The DLL Name property is the name of an extension DLL that the Control Center uses to communicate with the remote Clients. This property should be set to CEAdminExt.dll. This DLL must be present in the Control Center's installation folder
The Control Center uses a Control Center Update Server to gather information from computers monitored by a Client. The Control Center Update Server runs in the background retrieving status information about all computers displayed in the Manage Computers view. This status information is updated automatically provided the Background Updating property is enabled within the Network properties tab.
The Control Center Update Server runs as a Windows service call the Spector CNE Console Server and when enabled to background update, the administrator is relieved of having to always refresh the Manage Computers view in order to get the most up to date status of the Client computer installations.
Computer Name specifies on which computer the update server is installed. Currently, the update server is installed by default to the same computer as the Control Center.
Start and Stop are used to manually start and stop the Windows service called the Spector CNE Console Server
View Svr Log is used to display the update server's log file, which can be useful in determining problem areas
Set Credentials allows you to change the account name and password for the update server. When you installed the Spector CNE Control Center, you were required to provide credentials of a valid Administrator Windows user account. This feature allows you to modify those credentials should there be a need to change them to another account
Start/Stop Control Center Update Server synchronizes the activity of the Update Server with the Control Center. If this property is checked, the Update Server service is started when the Control Center is run and the Update Server service is stopped when the Control Center is exited. If this property is not checked, the Update Server will continually run and gather status information about the computers specified in the last computer configuration list used by the Control Center
