Computer Name Resolution
When installing Spector Client (Client), the computer name of the Primary Server and Data Vault must be configured. This configuration is one of the Deployment Utility settings.

Figure 1: CNE Servers and Data Vault Dialog
By default, the name of the computer that the Primary Server and Data Vault software components are installed on will be configured in the Client settings. This computer name is necessary as the Client must contact the Primary Server for licensing information and the Client must contact the Data Vault to communicate all recorded events.
If the computer on which the Client is installed is unable to resolve the server computer name to an IP address, the Client will not function properly. While it is not common for the computer name resolution to fail, it is possible that a Windows Workgroup network does not have the network naming service configured properly or in a domain, the Domain Name System (DNS) service is malfunctioning.
If it is known that a network computer will be unable to resolve computer names to an IP address, it is possible to configure the Client server settings with the IP addresses of the Server component's computer. By configuring the IP address for the Client server configuration settings, you must ensure that the IP address of the server computers does not change. For example, if DHCP were configured on the server computer, its IP address would change each time it was restarted.
