Data Vault Tab
This tab contains properties related to the configuration of the Data Vault and the method used to view recorded events from a Spector Client (Client) monitored computer.

Note:
The following relates to the contents of the Data Vault tab. For more
detailed information regarding the functionalities of the Data Vault,
see Data Vault Reference.
View Client Recordings
From Spector Client Computer If selected, all recorded events remain stored on the Client and the data is viewed by loading the events from the remote Client. If this option is selected the Data Vault may still be installed and operational, but it will not accept events from the Client computers.
From Data Vault If selected, all recorded events are automatically transferred at regular intervals from the Client to the Data Vault. The Data Vault will store the events in the folder specified by the Base Path option. The Base Path is a folder on the computer specified by the Computer Name option, on which the Data Vault resides
Note:
It is recommended that Client events be stored in the Data Vault. The
Data Vault provides a central repository for improved security, increased
storage, and simplified archive and retrieval of all recorded events
Data Vault
From Data Vault If selected, a Windows service that runs on each computer will periodically move all of its recorded events to the Data Vault server, which stores the recorded events in a subfolder named for the computer name of the computer. The subfolder will reside in the Data Vault folder as defined by the base path.
For example: if the base path is set to C:\ClientData and the computer's name is ‘Gonzo’, then the full path to the files containing the recorded events for the computer ‘Gonzo’ is C:\ClientData\Gonzo\.
As recorded events are removed from the computer and transferred to the Data Vault, they are deleted from the computer. The computer will only retain the most recently recorded events before they are transferred to the Data Vault.
There will be many files created in the subfolder of the Data Vault, which define all the recorded events from the computer. A single file named spmmddyyyy.tpr contains all keystroke, email, program, chat, instant message, peer to peer, and Web site events recorded on a specific day. The file's naming convention is:
sp is Spector
mm is the month
dd is the day
yyyy is the year.
Additional files named snapshotxxxxxxxxxxx.tpr contain all snapshot events recorded on the computer for a specific day.
Note:
The time/date stamp of the data files can be used for a backup solution
to archive all recorded events for all computers.
Files containing the Client recorded events can be automatically removed from the Data Vault by setting the configuration option for the number of days of Save Files For. Setting this option to zero (0) will leave the files in the Data Vault indefinitely, unless manually removed or deleted.
Install button If clicked, the Data Vault functions can be installed/reinstalled, after installing the Control Center.
Set File Password button If clicked, data stored to the Data Vault can be password protected, i.e. a password is attached to all data files stored to the Data Vault. The system will request validation, in the form of this password, to view the recorded data.
When the Data Vault service is installed, it automatically starts when the computer on which it is installed boots.
It may be necessary to stop and restart the Data Vault service by selecting Stop or Start
You can view the Data Vault’s log file, which can help you to verify that it is functioning or to locate potential problems
SQL Settings
A future version of this product will allow for viewing the recorded events of each computer from a SQL database.
