General Tab
This tab contains system wide general-purpose properties. The Control Center maintains a log file that tracks activity by the Spector CNE administrator. Activity detected by the Control Center during background network computer scanning is written to the log file. Most of the activity logged is specific to tasks performed by the Control Center, but occasionally network related activity could be recorded. The main purpose of this log file is to provide a mechanism to review activity after it has occurred. This allows technicians to help track down problem areas.

Log file entries can be recorded in three detail levels: Low, High, and Debug. Select these levels in the General Properties tab item called Log Detail Level. The Log File Name property is read-only and is provided for informational purposes. The default log filename is CEAdminRT.log. It is stored within the installation folder. During normal usage, the Log Detail Level should be set to Low. To debug events or track at the maximum detail level, it should be set to Debug.
Note:
Log files can become quite large when the Log
Detail Level is set to Debug
for an extended period of time.
Log File Size allows for the setting of the maximum log file size (in megabytes). Once the specified level is reached, the log file automatically truncates itself to half the size specified, while maintaining the most recent information in the log file.
Note:
The maximum log file size is 16 megabytes (MB). The default size is 1
MB.
You can view the current log by selecting View Log.
Computer Views contains two checkable items:
View All Computers in Configure Computers View
View All Computers in Monitor Computers View
If selected, the Control Center will display within each of these views all of the computers visible in the Manage Computers view. If these items are unchecked, the Control Center will only display those computers that the Control Center is able to communicate with and verify that a Client is installed.
It would be useful to select the View All Computers in Monitor Computers View if a Client had previously recorded data that you wish to view in the Monitor Computers view, but the computer no longer had a Client installed or the computer had been removed from the network: i.e. a laptop/notebook computer. Without selecting this option, the computer would not be displayed in the Monitor Computers view.
Enable Computer Groups Management is a feature that allows a Spector CNE administrator to 'group’ computers together. Instead of having a column in the Manage, Configure, and Monitor view defining a specific domain to which a computer belongs, a computer can be configured to be part of a group. This allows for computers in multiple domains to be part of the same management group.
If this item is not selected, the domain in which they reside on the network automatically groups computers
If selected, computers can be freely grouped as the Spector CNE administrator chooses. The group that a computer will belong to is defined at the time the computer is added to the configuration list. When this property is selected, all existing computers in the management list will be configured to a group with the same name as the domain for which they are currently configured.
Note:
This feature is only valid if Load Startup
Computer List From File is selected in the Network
properties tab
The topics Group and how to group computers are discussed throughout this Help wherever it affects other features of the product.
