Introduction to Control Center
The Spector Corporate Network Edition (CNE) Control Center is a Microsoft Management Console snap-in that is designed to manage Spector Client (Client) software installed on network computers. The Control Center allows the Spector CNE administrator to view any or all computers on a network, so that the Client software can be installed, configured, and administered remotely. In order to have complete access to all of CNE's capabilities and features, you must have Administrator privileges for each computer you will manage on the network.
The Control Center is designed to run on:
Windows NT
Windows 2000 Professional (or Server)
XP Professional (or Server)
The Control Center will not run on:
Windows XP Home computers
Windows ME computers
Windows 98 (or lower) computers
The Control Center has two windows from which to operate its features. The left window is called the Scope Window. It allows the Spector CNE administrator to choose the view that appears in the right window. The Scope window provides access to various global capabilities and features. The right window, called the Results Window, displays the chosen view of the network computer list.
The Scope window contains a tree list displaying the hierarchy of the various administrative views. The top of the tree list is the CNE folder and under it is the Control Center item. Under the Control Center item are the view items: Manage Computers, Configure Computers, and Monitor Computers. Selecting one of these view items causes the Results window to display the computer list for the selected view. (A fourth item in the list is Contact Spector. Selecting this item will display a SpectorSoft Web site, which can be used to receive technical support.)
The Manage Computers view is used for the remote install or uninstall of the Client to or from a network computer. It also provides access to other setup related tasks. All the Spector CNE administrator needs to do is select the computer from the list in the Results window and either, select the appropriate toolbar button or menu item to install or uninstall.
The Configure Computers view is used to access remote functionalities on the Client after it is installed on the network computer. Selecting the computer from the list in the Results window provides access to the Configure Computers functionalities on the network computer.
The Monitor Computers view is used to access data recorded by the Client.
