Peer to Peer

Spector Client (Client) is configured to record P2P events by selecting options within the P2P configuration tab. The P2P configuration tab can be found when:

Capture Peer to Peer

If you wish for the Client to record Peer to Peer events on a computer, select Capture P2P to put a checkmark in the option box. To disable email recording, clear the checkmark from the Capture P2P box.

P2P File

When P2P events are recorded by the Client, they are stored in a data file that resides in the Data File Folder. If the Client is configured to upload recorded events to the Data Vault, then this information will be frequently moved from the P2P Data File into the Data Vault.

If the Client is configured to keep the recorded events on the computer, or the Data Vault is unavailable for uploading of events, the size of the P2P data file is a consideration. The size of the P2P data file cannot be left unchecked as it would eventually consume a large amount of storage space on the computer.

The following settings allow for the limitation of the amount of storage space required for recorded P2P events.

Delete Data After … Days

Select the number of days that the Client should keep recorded P2P events on the computer. If P2P events have been recorded before this number of days, then the P2P events will be deleted. For example, if this setting is for ten days and today is August 11, the Client would keep all P2P events recorded on August 1 and later. This setting is not a concern if the Client is configured to move recorded P2P events to the Data Vault. They would be moved frequently and would not reside for ten days on the computer.

Note: The Default number of days is 10.

Maximum Data Size … Megabytes

Select the maximum number of megabytes to which the P2P events data file should grow. When the P2P data files have reached the configured size, the oldest P2P events will be removed to allow for recording of new events, and to keep the P2P data file under the maximum configured size. This setting should not be a concern if the Client is configured to upload recorded events to the Data Vault.

Note: The default P2P Data File size is ten megabytes.

Advanced P2P Settings

Advanced Peer to Peer settings allow for the configuration of Gnutella ports. Gnutella is a P2P standard for which there are many applications. The default ports are 6346 and 6347. It is possible that some P2P applications that use Gnutella will communicate on other ports.

Those other ports can be configured by:

  1. Select Client Settings from within Configure Computers view
  2. Select P2P tab
  3. Click on the Advanced button
  4. Type the port number within the field titled Gnutella Ports
  5. Click on the OK button

Note:  The Client computer must be restarted for advanced P2P settings to take effect.
