Peer to Peer Recording
Spector Client (Client) provides the ability to record the exchange of information between one computer and another, i.e. the download of music or transfer of files. For each transfer or download, the following information is recorded:
Program The program name of the Peer to Peer application
Date The date and time the Peer to Peer activity was recorded
Media The type of file that was downloaded or uploaded. The file types defined are:
Audio This is a music or sound file in a defined audio format like MP3, WAV, or AVI
Image This is a picture in a defined graphic format like JPG, GIF, or BMP
Video This is a movie defined by a video format like MPG or MOV
Software This is a program file defined by a software format like EXE
Document This is a document file format like DOC or TXT
Compressed This contains compressed files in a format like ZIP
Unknown The file media type is unknown
Type The type of Peer to Peer activity that was recorded. This can be a file search, file download, or file upload
String If the P2P activity is a search, this will be the search criteria used. If the P2P activity is a download or upload, this will be the name of the file
To configure Peer to Peer recording on a monitored computer, configure the Peer to Peer Settings when building the Client installation file with the Spector CNE Deployment Utility.
In addition, the Peer to Peer settings can be changed on the Client after installation by selecting the computer within the Configure Computers View of the Control Center. Peer to Peer settings can also be changed by selecting the Settings tab from within the Spector Viewer when reviewing recorded events.
To review Peer to Peer data recorded on a monitored computer, use the Monitor Computers View of the Control Center to select the computer to review. See Viewing Peer to Peer for details on reviewing the recorded Peer to Peer data.
By default, the Client is configured to record all Peer to Peer activity at all times. If you want to change this setting:
Click on the Settings button
Click on the Peer to Peer tab
Remove the checkmark from the box labeled Capture Peer to Peer
