Programs Recording
Spector Client (Client) provides the ability to record every program and program window executed on a computer. For each program event, the Client will record:
The date and time the program window was opened
The title of the program window
The name of the program
The Windows user that executed the program
The total time the program was opened
The total time the program had the Windows focus
The total time the program was active with keyboard and mouse activity
The amount of times the program was opened during that day and time
To configure programs to be recorded on a monitored computer, configure the Programs settings when building the Client installation file with the Spector CNE Deployment Utility.
In addition, the Programs settings can be changed on the Client after installation by selecting the computer within the Configure Computers View of the Control Center or by selecting the Settings tab from within the Spector Viewer when reviewing recordings for the Client.
To review Programs events recorded on a monitored computer, use the Monitor Computers View of the Control Center to select the computer to review. See Viewing Programs for details on reviewing the recorded program windows.
The Client will record every program that creates a visible window on the monitored computer. Programs that run in the background, or those visible in the system tray, will NOT be recorded unless they are opened by the user to reveal a window.
The information recorded by the Client about every program executed on the computer can be very powerful in determining how the user spent their time. By viewing a summary for a particular day or sequence of days, you can get an overview of:
The programs that were used the most
How much actual time was spent using the program
The Client can also provide details about how a particular program was used by reporting the main document windows that were opened within the program. For example, the Client would record that Microsoft Word was run and it would also record the title of each document opened and the amount of time spent working within those documents.
