Administrator's Guide
Chat room and IM conversations are supported by specific vendors (see below), involve multiple users, and happen in real time. For each Chat/IM conversation, the Client records:
Date and time the conversation took place
Windows program the conversation was recorded in
Title of the window
Windows user logged in when the conversation was recorded
Other users in the conversation
Entire Chat/IM conversation
Note: The Client Recorder does NOT provide the ability to record any oral or voice conversations.
The Client records the following types of chat or instant messaging conversations.
AOL
The Client records America Online conversations:
AOL Chat accessed within the proprietary AOL interface
AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) encrypted and unencrypted connections as well as direct connections
AIM Express, which uses a Java applet to perform AIM conversations
Dead AIM, a 3rd-party modification of AIM that removes advertising and adds additional functionality
ICQ
The Client records "I Seek You" conversations:
ICQ, ICQ 2002, ICQ 2003
ICQ Lite
Yahoo
The Client records Yahoo conversations:
Yahoo Messenger (Yahoo! Pager or Ypager) a web interface downloaded from Yahoo.com used for instant messaging with other Yahoo users,
Yahoo Chat
Yahoo Chat 2.0,
Yahoo Java interface chat rooms
Microsoft
The Client records Microsoft conversations:
MSN Messenger, an web interface downloaded from MSN used to communicate across the Internet with other MSN Messenger users using a .NET Passport account
MSN Messenger communicating across a corporate network using MS Exchange
Windows Messenger, provided as part of Windows XP (similar to MSN Messenger)
MSN Chat, the Active X control used for chat in a browser window
Skype
Text chat conversations across a Skype connection are recorded.
MySpace
Instant Messaging at the MySpace web site is recorded.
Trillian
Trillian IM programs communicate with other major IM programs, allowing a user to converse with Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, and AIM users at the same time without having to install all three separate applications. All conversations are recorded. Trillian Pro encrypted conversations are NOT recorded.
IRC
Most IRC (Internet Relay Chat) Clients are recorded, as listed below. Some IRC clients use non-standard communications ports and cannot be recorded. See the Advanced Chat settings for the communications ports monitored by default.

A few types of Chat/Instant Messages (IM) are not currently recorded by the Spector Client. While SpectorSoft has attempted to specifically record the most popular types of Chat/IM used on the Internet, there may be some proprietary interfaces that are not supported. The following Chat/IM interfaces are NOT supported:
ICQ ToGo
ICQ Chat (Private Chat Room)
Jabber-based – Uses a streaming XML technology. The new Google Talk is based on this technology.
Trillian Pro encrypted conversations
Netscape Messenger
