Configure Computers
When the Client begins recording, it stores the data on the local hard drive until it can upload it to the Data Vault. All recorded events are stored in hidden data files in a Windows system folder. After the events are uploaded, they are deleted from the Client computer.
Part of configuration of Client computers is setting storage parameters for the recorded data. Storage on the Client becomes a concern when the network goes down or when a Client is removed from the network. If the Client cannot upload and exceeds its limits for storage of recorded events, it will start deleting older data.

Make sure your recording settings and the Client data storage limits are realistic. You don't want the user to run out of available disk space because of Client recording! |
To control data storage on clients:
Take one or both of the following steps:
Make Settings choices that limit the Client storage space used, such as the length of time the computer is recorded each day (Record When) and other filtering options.
Adjust the Client data file limits.
The default snapshot settings keep recordings 30 days or until 500 megabytes (MB) of disk space are used. This provides ample space for normal Snapshot recordings (grayscale format, once every 30 seconds) on a Client. The Control Center allows you to set Snapshot storage limits separately from other data because data size varies so much.
If you configure the Client to take more snapshots or color snapshots, you will probably need to increase the disk space allowed on the Client hard drives. To maximize storage space, you can control:
The frequency with which Snapshots are taken
The Inactivity Timeout setting when Snapshot recording ceases
The capture format (high-resolution, color, etc.)
If necessary, set new limits for storage in Client Data File Settings.
By default, the Client will retain 10 days of recorded email, or 10 MB of disk space. The program will automatically start deleting the oldest email recordings when it runs up against one of these limits. For example, if recorded email messages are taking 2 MB per day, then the Client will only hold 5 days of email recordings before it starts automatically deleting the oldest data. Client settings allow you to control:
Which types of email are recorded
Whether attachments are recorded
Conditions (filtering) under which to record email or attachments
Email Attachments are stored separately from other data, both on the Client computer and in the Data Vault. By default, the Client does NOT save email attachments, but you can enable this option in the Email Activity settings. Some file attachments—program executables, graphics, large documents—take a great deal of disk space. You can increase the Maximum Attachment Size from the default 100KB to a higher value, up to the 1 MB. The Client will NOT store an attachment greater than 1 (one) MB.
By default, the Client will hold 10 days or 3 MB of recorded Chat/IM conversations. It will automatically start deleting the oldest chat/IM recordings when it runs up against one of these limits. For example, if recorded chat/IMs are taking 1 MB per day, then the Client will retain 3 days of chat/IM recordings before it starts automatically deleting the oldest data.
By default, the Client will hold 10 days or 1 MB of recorded keystrokes. It will automatically start deleting the oldest keystroke recordings when it runs up against one of these limits.
By default, the Client will hold 10 days or 1 MB of Web Sites Visited recording. The Client will automatically start deleting the oldest Web recordings when it runs up against one of these limits.
