Configure Computers
Note: Keep in mind that each type of recording can also be turned on/off from Client Settings. |
Once the Client is installed, you can quickly stop and restart recording from the Control Center. This is useful before predicted network shutdowns, personnel changes, or office equipment transitions.
You can immediately stop or restart recording of a computer or group.
To stop / start all recording:
Open the Control Center.
Select Configure Computers in the left pane.
In the right pane, select a computer or group.
Click the red STOP button on
the Control Center toolbar, or
Right-click on the computer or group, select All
Tasks > Stop Recording or Start Recording. Recording status on
the client or group immediately changes.

Configure Properties for one Client
|
For a more fine-tuned approach to controlling recording, use the Configure Computers Properties. Each client computer has its own Properties, so make sure the Configure Computer view shows all computers, not groups. The Properties are taken from the current Client Settings for the Client Recorder. Changing these properties will remotely reconfigure the Client.
To enable or disable types of recording:
Select Configure Computers in the left pane.
In the right pane, select a computer.
Right-click and select Properties.
At the top of the Properties box, click the Configure tab.
Check items to enable recording, and clear items to disable recording. For example, you could disable all types of recording except Chat/IM for a computer to limit the recorded data.
Click Apply to reconfigure the Client, click OK to apply the reconfiguration and close the Properties box, or click Cancel to close the box without applying changes.
Fields in the Configure Properties box are:
Spector Recording Activated: When checked, the Client is recording (or recording is pending). When cleared, the Client is not recording any activity.
Web Sites: Enable or disable Web Sites Visited recording. Capture of the user's Online Searches will also be enabled or disabled.
Keystrokes: Enable or disable keystroke recording.
Chat/IM: Enable or disable recording of chat and Instant Messaging conversations.
Emails: Enable or disable recording of email sent and received.
Snapshots: Enable or disable periodic "photo" of the user's screen.
Programs: Enable or disable recording of application use.
File Transfers: Enable or disable recording of peer-to-peer, FTP, and HTTP activity.
Document Tracking: Enable or disable recording of document printing and movement.
Network: Enable or disable recording of network uploads and downloads.

If ANY recording method is on, you will be able to view User Activity data — the user's log on/off times and periods of activity and inactivity. |
