After the Server Components are installed, you need only to deploy the Client to network computers to complete your installation. However, before you attempt to do so, answer the following questions to determine how you will manage each computer.
Any network computer that you plan to record must meet these requirements:
You have an available license for the Client on this computer (e.g., a 50 client license to install the Client Recorder on 50 computers).
The computer is on the network and able to communicate through a TCP/IP connection.
The computer has at least 50 MB free hard disk space.
The computer is able to communicate with computer(s) where the Primary Server, the Control Center, and the Data Vault are installed. We recommend using a static IP address for the Server Components computer(s) to ensure communication. See Network Name Resolution and IP Address.
The computer has one of the
following Windows operating systems installed:
Windows NT 4.0
Windows 2000
Windows XP Professional
Windows Server 2003
Windows XP Home*
Windows 98/ME*
*You will install the Client directly on Windows XP Home and 98/ME
computers as these operating systems do not have the required Windows
services running that allow remote installation of the Client. See Installing at the Client Computer.
To install and remotely manage a Client, you need Administrator-level login credentials on that computer. You will be prompted for those credentials when you attempt to install or uninstall the Client.
On a domain network, simply use a Domain Administrator login. This is a user account that is a member of the network Domain Administrator Group, which in turn should be in the Local Administrator Group on each computer. Most domain networks have this set up already.

To remotely manage Clients, the Control Center relies on access to the administrative C$ share on each Client. This share, along with Administrator group membership on the local computer, gives the Control Center access to manage the computer in "integrated mode." More...
The Control Center relies on Windows Services to remotely manage and configure computers. If the Client computers have the following services enabled, you can install the Client from the Control Center and manage it in "integrated mode." These services are generally available on Windows XP Pro, NT, and 2000.
To check Windows Services and Administrator Privileges on the clients, run the Client Computer Diagnostics.
If a computer does not have the required Windows Services available (Windows XP Home, 98, ME), you can install the Client manually at the computer and then manage the computer in "non-integrated mode." Non-integrated mode requires some manual setup and relies on the Client Service rather than the Client computer's Windows Services. See Managing in Non-Integrated Mode.
If any Client computers are separated from the Primary Server or Data Vault computer by a network firewall, make sure that IP Port 16770 and 16769 are open between the networks where the computers reside. The Client installation automatically creates exceptions for a Windows XP firewall as needed.
