Configure Computers
By default, the Client is set to install without a Viewer and run in Stealth Mode so it will not be detected. This ensures the greatest amount of security. You can change the Client Security options in the Security panel of the of the Deployment Utility wizard before installation, or from Client Settings panel after installation.
For extra security, you can require an additional password to install and uninstall the Client. In addition, if you are including a Viewer with the Client, you can configure access control through hotkeys and the password.
Note: We suggest using the same password for all Client installations. Passwords are case-sensitive.
Security Settings in the Deployment Utility include the Viewer Installation Option
Password - If defined, prompts for a password when (a) a Control Center user attempts to uninstall or view recordings on the Client, (b) at the beginning of a visible, interactive installation of the Client, and (b) to open the Viewer (if one is installed) at the Client computer following entry of the hotkey combination. If no password is defined, the prompt does not appear.
Confirm Password - Confirm the password.
Hotkey - The key combination required to activate access to the Client Viewer.
Change
- This button opens the Hotkey box where you can select a new combination
for opening the Viewer. The default is Ctrl+ALT+SHIFT+S.

Set to Stealth Mode - Check to hide all indication that the Client is running (default); clear to leave a Client Service icon visible in the system tray. See Stealth vs. Visible Mode for a complete discussion.
Include Viewer with Spector Client Installation - This option is available only in the Deployment Utility wizard. Check to install a standalone Viewer with the Client. Clear to install the Client Recorder only. You will be able to view recordings from the Monitor Users/Computers view. For security, include the Viewer only for troubleshooting purposes.
Most Clients will NOT have the Viewer installed, and the hotkeys configured on this Security panel do nothing. If you have installed a Viewer, however, be sure to set up hotkeys to access the Viewer, preferably WITH a password.
To set security on a Viewer:
Make sure Set Spector Client to Stealth Mode is selected. The Viewer is easily accessed without this setting.
Define a password in Client Security Settings. This password will be required AFTER you enter the hotkey combination to open the Viewer.
Define a hot-key combination that will open the standalone Viewer. You will enter the key combination at the Client computer (by default Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S) and then enter the password to open the Viewer. To change the hotkey combination, click the Change button, select a new key combination, and click OK.
Two buttons provide further Client Security Settings.
Advanced - It is usually not necessary to adjust these settings. See Advanced Security Settings.
Client Data Files - This button opens the box where you can control how data is stored on the local Client before being uploaded to the Data Vault. See Client Data File Settings.
