Configure Computers
Change how the Client communicates with the Server Components from the Server Communication panel in the Deployment Utility or in Client Settings. The panel is automatically populated with settings from the installation. Usually these settings work well. You need to change them only if you have moved a Server Component or are having difficulty communicating with a particular Client computer.
Before changing the Server settings, remember:
Use a static IP address for Server Components. When a computer obtains an IP address automatically (uses DHCP) the address may change every time it connects to the network. The Client may not be able to find it or resolve the computer name to an IP address.
Clients must have the server IP address in order to communicate with the server. Each server communicates with Clients on a particular port.
As described in How the Client Works, the Client periodically queries the Primary Server for licensing validation. If communication with the Primary Server was never established or communication is lost, the Client will not upload recorded events to the Data Vault, can not be configured remotely, and will stop recording.

Server Name - The computer name or IP address of the computer where the Primary Server is installed. Change the name if the Primary Server has been installed on a different computer.
Server Port - The default IP port address for communication with the Primary Server is port 16770. You can change the port by entering a different number. The Server Port configuration in this panel must match the Port configuration in the Control Center Properties for the Primary Server.
Use Static IP Address - Recommended setting
Server IP - The IP address of the computer where the Primary Server is installed. Click Edit to change the address.
Edit - Opens the IP:Port box where you can change the IP address. If the server has been installed on a different computer, you will need to change this address and reinitialize the Clients. If you don't know the IP address of the computer, enter the computer name in the lower field and click Resolve. The IP address for the computer will be displayed in the upper field. Click OK to set your change.

The Clients upload their recorded events to the Data Vault.

Server Name - The computer name or IP address of the computer where the Data Vault service is installed. Change the name if the Data Vault service has been installed on a different computer.
Server Port - Enter the IP port address for communication with the Data Vault. The default is port 16769. Do NOT change the port unless there is a network conflict.
Use Static IP Address - Check if the server resides on a computer with a static IP address. This is the recommended setting. If the server does not use a static IP address, the Client MUST be able to resolve the name of the Primary Server and Data Vault to an IP address.
Server IP - The IP address of the computer where the Data Vault is installed. Click the Edit button to change the IP address (see above).
Send Interval - How often the Client sends data to the DV. The default is every 240 seconds.
Max Send Period - How long the connection from the Client to the DV lasts.
The port at which the Client listens for server communication is 2468. This port cannot be changed.
