Review keystrokes entered by a user from the Keystrokes Typed Activity tab. The Spector Client captures every keystroke typed, including non-displayable keys (Shift, Alt, or Ctrl ) or hidden characters usually displayed as asterisks (***) for passwords.
The Client records all keystrokes typed in a program window as one event. For example, all text entered into the Notepad until the Notepad document is closed is recorded as an event.
You can view Keystroke events in two views: by Program Execution and by Window Title. Viewing by program allows you to group keystroke window events together: you can see an entire chat conversation, or all entries made in Word documents.
Fields in the Events pane are:
Program - The program where the user entered the keystrokes.
Keystrokes - Total number of keystrokes typed while the program was open, including non-displayed keys such as Ctrl and Shift.
Characters - Total keystrokes that resulted in displayed characters, including Space.
Program Start Date - Date and time the program was started.
To view keystrokes by Program:
Click the View button and select by Program Execution.
Select a program in the list of Events. For example, select MSN Messenger to view keystroke input for a series of Instant Messaging conversations.
View the Contents of the keystrokes
in the lower Contents pane
- OR-
Double click the program in
the upper Events list to display all content from a program.

Viewing by Window Title allows you to see keystrokes by document or instance of the window. For example, a separate MSN Messenger event is available for each NEW window opened for IM conversations.

Fields in the Events pane are:
Program - The program where the user entered the keystrokes.
Window Title - Caption of the window where keystrokes were entered, providing the Windows path, document name, or Web Site title.
Keystrokes - Total number of keystrokes typed during the event, including non-displayed keys such as Ctrl and Shift.
Characters - Total keystrokes that resulted in displayed characters, including Space.
Date - Date and time the Client recorded the Keystroke event.
To view Keystroke events by Window Title:
Click the View button and select by Program Window Title.
Select a Window Title in the list of Events.

within that window in the lower Contents pane
- OR - or
Double-click a Window Title
in the Events list to see keystrokes in a pop-up window.
Select the Keystrokes tab in the lower pane to view actual keystrokes typed for a selected event. The first blue line is always the Window Title, the second green line is always a time stamp for the input, and the keystroke contents follow. The Viewer provides three views of Keystrokes: Formatted, Raw, and Custom.
Formatted - Click to view of the Keystrokes formatted as the user intended, showing displayable characters, upper/lowercase, and without text erased by <Backspace> or <Delete>.
Raw - Click to view displayable and non-displayable keys, words for Space/Enter/Tab, and no processing of <Backspace> or formatting of keystrokes.
Custom - Click to view a custom view of keystrokes. Click the down-arrow next to Custom to open the Keystroke Settings box and choose settings for your custom view.
Select the Characters tab in the lower pane to view Characters generated by the keystrokes. This tab is especially important for viewing languages such as German, Japanese, and Chinese. See Keystrokes vs. Characters for an explanation. The first blue line is always the Window Title, the second green line is always a time stamp for the input, and the formatted characters follow. The Viewer provides three views of Keystrokes: Formatted, Raw, and Custom.
