You may want to adjust the settings that regulate where data files are stored, how big they can get before they are deleted, and how old they can get before they are deleted.
A data file contains chunks of information or recorded events that have been captured by Spector Pro from a monitored PC. This information is later displayed in the appropriate activity, Top 10 and MySpace window when you open the Viewer.
To access the Data File Settings window:
Open the Settings window.
Locate Configure Security under Security in the Navigate pane at left.
Click to open the Configure Security pane at right.
Click Data Files to open the Data File Settings window. This window contains:
Data Files - find or change data file folder name and filename extension, or set a data file password.
Snapshot Data Files - determine the maximum size and age of snapshot files, and view snapshot statistics.
Other Data Files - determine maximum size and age of all data files, other than snapshots.

|
|
Review the settings to be sure they reflect how you want to manage data files. |
To change basic data file settings:
Folder - Indicates the location and name of the folder in which Spector Pro data files are stored (in this case ”r;unimedlg”). This name is randomly generated during installation. The location of the folder is based on the operating system you have installed.
You may choose a new folder in which to store data files by clicking Browse and navigating to a new location.
|
|
It is NOT recommended that you store recorded data in folders located out on the network (for example on a server. Spector Pro cannot recover information if a communications error occurs while sending data to a network folder, or if the network location is not available to receive information. |
Share - Click the checkbox to set up a "virtual hidden share" which points to the folder where data files are stored. If you plan to view data remotely over a network, this step makes the data file sharing procedure both simple and concealed from view. See Data File Sharing for more information.
Extension - The extension is randomly generated during installation and may be changed. As data files are created, file names are also randomly generated and can be altered.
Password - This option adds an extra layer of security to prevent unauthorized access to the data files. If the Spector Pro hotkey sequence and password become known and the data is NOT password protected, recorded activities can be viewed or deleted.
|
|
A new password takes effect for data files created after the change. You must continue to use an old password to open data files created prior to a password change. |
Click Set. The Enter New Password window appears.

Enter Password - Type a password.
Verify Password - Type the password again.
Click OK to accept the entries you have made, or Cancel to reject them.
Hide Data Files in Windows Explorer - When this is selected, system folders and data files are hidden from view in Internet Explorer (IE). You can go into Windows and instruct it to show all hidden files and folders, and these files and folders will then be visible. The default is to hide Spector Pro files and folders.
Click OK to accept the changes you have made, or Cancel to reject them. The Data File Settings window closes.
Click OK to save the changes you have made, or Cancel to remove them. The Settings window closes.
To change snapshot data file settings:
Delete Data After . . . Days - Spector Pro automatically starts deleting snapshots after a specified number of days, (or when the Maximum Data Size is reached, whichever occurs first). Spector Pro always deletes the oldest recordings first. Use the arrows or type a number to indicate how many days must elapse prior to deletion. The available range is 0 to 999 days. The default interval is 30 days.
|
|
If you do not want Spector Pro to delete snapshots after a certain number of days and you ONLY want to delete snapshots after the maximum disk storage space is exceeded, then enter 0 days. The system will keep the data until disk space runs out. |
Maximum Data Size - Spector Pro automatically starts deleting snapshots after the specified disk storage space has been exceeded, (or when the specified number of days is reached, whichever occurs first). Use the arrows or type a number to indicate the maximum data size for snapshots. The available range is 0 to 4000 megabytes. The default is 500 megabytes. A setting of 0 means "unlimited." Spector Pro continues to store data as long as there is disk space.

The Delete Data setting has an impact on disk storage requirements. |
Snapshot Statistics - Click to open the Average Daily Usage window, which enables you to monitor how much disk space is being used for snapshots over a period of time.

Total Data Recorded - The total disk storage space currently being used for snapshots.
Total Recording Time - The total amount of active recording time since recording began. This statistic readjusts after you delete all snapshots.
Data recorded per hr (Avg) - The average amount of disk storage space used per hour of active recording time.
Estimated Daily Usage - An estimate of the amount of disk storage space used on a daily basis.
Click OK to close the window.
Click OK to accept the changes you have made, or Cancel to reject them. The Data File Settings window closes.
