Introduction to Data and Security

There are a number of "behind-the-scenes" tasks that keep your data safe, manage the data files themselves, and affect how Spector Pro functions.

Managing Security

The most important security task is to protect your data. Spector Pro accomplishes this by offering several important settings that make it virtually impossible for anyone without proper authority to open the program. With Spector Pro, you can have peace of mind knowing that your recordings are safe and secure. No unauthorized person will be able to gain access and change configurations, view or delete information, or uninstall the program.

After installing the program and restarting your computer, Spector Pro begins recording. But first you might want to review and adjust security settings.

To ensure top security: use the Stealth Mode, change the hotkey sequence that opens Spector Pro (unless it was already changed during installation), and password protect your data files.

Additional security measures, which you can take during installation, allow you to:

  • remove the Spector Pro file from the hard drive on which the program is installed.

  • remove all references to the SpectorSoft web site from Internet Explorer.

Managing Data Files

As time goes on, data will accumulate, and at some point you may need to manage the data files.

Accessing Security and Data File Functions

To access the Configure Security pane:

  1. Open the Settings window.

  2. Locate Configure Security under Security in the Navigate pane at left.

  3. Click to open the Configure Security pane at right. This pane contains:

Review the settings to be sure they reflect how you want to manage security and data file issues.

If you have a network and you are using a Viewer computer to monitor the other computers remotely, you must adjust security and data file settings on each monitored computer.

If there are multiple accounts, ALL users must be logged off and all programs closed before you adjust the settings. If not, the changes are not registered for those users and programs.

Next you will take a look at Secure Access: Password.
