Introduction to Who and When To Record

Spector Pro's Recording feature allows you to view data relating to the computer activity that is going on in your home or office. Limiting which activities are recorded helps to limit the amount of data you review, and provide only the information in which you are interested.

By default all activities (chat / IM, web sites visited, online searches email, files transferred, keystrokes typed, and programs) are recorded, except for network activity. Any of these activities can be turned on or off via the appropriate Settings pane. In addition:

You may also create a customized recording schedule, if you want to control when recording occurs. Do not adjust these settings if you want to record 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Does Recording Apply to All Users?

By default, recording applies to all Windows users who have an account on a monitored computer. You can, however, choose to limit which users are recorded.

For example: The entire family shares one computer. You are not interested in recording your own activities, but you want to record all three children. Create an exclusion list on Who To Record and enter your user name. Only the three children will be recorded.

All recording settings apply to all users being recorded. You cannot select a different When To Record scenario for each user.

See Introduction to Blocking for a discussion of the relationship between recording and blocking.
