Microsoft Windows Defender (Windows 8)


How do I prevent Microsoft Windows Defender from detecting Spector Pro?  


Before you run the Spector Pro Setup program, disable all antivirus scanning at the computer. Add the Spector Pro Spector Pro folder displayed during installation to the whitelist used by this antivirus software, as described below.

Turn off Windows Defender while running the setup

1.     Roll your mouse into the corner of the window and select Search from the Charms menu. Search for Defender in Apps.  

2.  Windows Defender opens.

3.  Select the Settings tab and Real-time Protection.

4.   Click to turn off real-time protection. If aUser Account Control dialog box appears, enter an administrator name and password for this computer and click Yes to continue.

5.  Click Save Changes at the bottom of the panel.

 Install Spector Pro

If you have already installed Spector Pro, you can re-install without losing data, and obtain the folder name.

1.   Run the Spector Pro Setup program.  

2.   During the installation, a dialog box with a stop sign appears. Click Save to create a document listing the folder and files for this installation.

Name the file and note the location where you save it (for example, in the Documents folder). The file opens automatically and displays the Spector Pro folder and file names.

NOTE: Your folder and files will be different!

3.   Return to the Spector Pro installation panel and click the check box to verify you have read the instructions. You can then click Continue.

4.   At the end of the installation, choose: No, I will restart my computer later. You will restart the computer AFTER excluding the Spector Pro folder.


Exclude Spector Pro from scanning

1.     In Windows Defender, select Excluded files and locations

2.   In the Field Locations box, type or paste the folder path.

3.   Click the Add button to add the file folder to the lower list.

4.   Continue to add files until the list for the Spector Pro Server or Client files is completet.

5.   Click Save Changes.

NOTE: Your folder and files will be different from those shown in these illustrations!

6.   Re-enable Real-time protection and exit.
